The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benitez thows a body kick. Vasquez tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Benitez feints and then cracks Vasquez's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Vasquez down.
Benitez scores with a nice head shot.
Vasquez fails with a takedown attempt.
Benitez throws a body punch but Vasquez moves out of range.

Vasquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Benitez swivels and escapes.
Chucho Benitez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alberto Vasquez.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vasquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Benitez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Benitez is pushing down on Vasquez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vasquez is fighting to maintain full guard but Benitez has managed to sneak the leg through.

Benitez is just content to waste time from the top position. Vasquez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Vasquez wants to stand but Benitez is controlling the position.

Benitez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Vasquez's guard.

Benitez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
