Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Cabro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Cabro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matheus Pontes!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pontes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Cabro is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pontes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cabro wants to stand up but Pontes is controlling him.
Cabro can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pontes controls the pace.

Cabro wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Pontes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cabro to see if he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pontes swings around for an armbar but Cabro sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pontes's guard.

Cabro trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pontes's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pontes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pontes pulls Cabro in close to prevent any damage.
Cabro wants to control from the top but Pontes keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cabro misses with a body kick.
Cabro fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Cabro gets caught napping as Pontes dives in and scores a takedown. Cabro manages to retain guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pontes decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Pontes takes a swing at Cabro's ribcage but misses.
Cabro lunges at Pontes with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Pontes's hand.
Pontes throws a body punch but Cabro moves out of range.
Pontes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Cabro is breathing heavily.
Pontes stuffs the takedown attempt from Cabro. Cabro gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Cabro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pontes tries to clinch but Cabro is having none of it.
Pontes steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cabro. That one must have hurt.

Cabro tries to clinch up.
Cabro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pontes tries to avoid it but Cabro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pontes to the ground. Pontes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pontes closes the distance and clinches.
Pontes misses with a knee strike.

Pontes lands a takedown into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cabro is wriggling around but Pontes manages to pass to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pontes seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Pontes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matheus Pontes dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Pontes takes the fight into the clinch.
Pontes looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Pontes jumps into guard, dragging Cabro to the mat.
Cabro looking to sit in guard and control but Pontes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Pontes wants to control from the top but Cabro keeps moving.

Pontes drops back looking for a leg! Cabro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cabro manages to kick Pontes off! Pontes jumps back into Cabro's guard.

Cabro is trying to control the position but Pontes postures up.
Cabro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pontes throwing strikes from guard but Cabro blocks nicely.

Pontes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pontes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Cabro is trying to control the position but Pontes postures up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Cabro gets tackled into the cage by Pontes. Pontes maintains the clinch.

Pontes gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Cabro regains guard.

Matheus Pontes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Pontes is trying to control the action in half guard but Cabro is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pontes decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Cabro fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pontes keeps the fight on the outside.

Cabro scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Pontes manages to mount him!

Cabro is desperately trying to improve his position but Pontes has a good base and remains in mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cabro is bucking up trying to escape but Pontes cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Matheus Pontes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pontes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
