Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeb Russell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Gorden! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gorden fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Russell to the ground. Gorden is now in Russell's guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Russell being controlled here, momentarily. Russell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gorden doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gorden manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Gorden wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving. Gorden engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Russell is adopting a defensive guard. Russell keeping moving, preventing Gorden from controlling successfully.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jeff Gorden wasn't active enough on the ground. A looping hook to the body misses from Russell. Gorden does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gorden will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Gorden misses with a wild combination.
Russell slips under a jab from Gorden. Gorden scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Gorden tries to advance to mount but Russell denies him. Gorden working away. Gorden has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Russell! Russell tries to hold on but Gorden pushes him away. Gorden controlling from mount. Gorden is landing with some decent strikes but Russell is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gorden with the ground and pound from mount. Gorden wants to control the pace but Russell is squirming around nicely. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gorden seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Russell is holding on tight.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Gorden lands a heavy elbow. Gorden can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Russell is looking to escape. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Gorden controlling the pace for now. Russell prevents Gorden from taking his back. Russell regains half guard. Gorden is trying to control the action in half guard but Russell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Russell is looking for a sweep. Gorden is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Gorden is thwarting Russell's attempts to control the position. Russell is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Russell is not content to let Gorden control the position.
Jeff Gorden has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Russell avoids the body shot from Gorden.
Gorden gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Russell counters with a one-two to the body. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Gorden misses with an uppercut
and Russell makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Gorden really felt that one! Gorden with a poor takedown and Russell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Jeb Russell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Gorden. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Russell finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gorden fails with the takedown and Russell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gorden misses with a wild body shot. Russell tries to close the distance and clinch but Gorden swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Gorden looks to score with a jab to the body but Russell is just out of range. Gorden doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Russell to counter with a crisp jab. The fight stays on the outside here - Russell looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Gorden with a lazy takedown attempt and Russell counters with a nice body shot. Gorden misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Jeb Russell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Gorden. A slow jab from Russell misses its intended target. Jeb Russell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gorden avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gorden shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Russell looks to score with a jab to the body but Gorden is just out of range. Russell scores with a one two! Gorden had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Russell scores with a nice right hand.
Russell shoots for a double leg takedown but Gorden sprawls well. He's pushed Russell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gorden shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Russell counters with an outside leg kick.

Russell is pressed up against the cage. Gorden has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Russell down to the mat. Russell avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Gorden fails with the takedown and Russell counters with a right hand to the body. Gorden takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. A chopping leg kick lands by Russell.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Russell defending well as Gorden loads up on a big left hand. Gorden shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Russell counters with a leg kick. Russell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gorden. Gorden shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Russell but Russell pushes him off and we're back to square one. Gorden feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Gorden is breathing heavily. Gorden wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving. Gorden advances position into side control! Russell can't do much from the bottom here. Russell is looking to reverse the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gorden advances to mount. Russell sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Gorden frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Gorden can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Russell is looking to escape. Russell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Russell tries to hold on but Gorden pushes him away. Gorden looking to control but Russell is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Russell wants to hold on but Gorden pushes him away.

Russell squirms to his side and now Gorden has his back! Gorden lands strikes to the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Russell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Gorden gets his way!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Russell covering up well under a series of strikes from Gorden. Russell looking very determined here, making life difficult for Gorden.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jeb Russell will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Gorden shoots in for a double leg but Russell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Jeb Russell is winning the standup battle so far. Russell throws a hook but Gorden blocks it. Russell throws a head kick that misses. Gorden with a body punch. A glancing blow. Russell misses with a shot to the body and Gorden counters with a lovely shot to the body. Gorden shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Gorden is controlling the pace.
Russell looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gorden moves nicely into side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Russell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gorden wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Gorden trying to control the position but Russell is working away. Gorden lands some shots froms side control. Gorden wants to lay and pray for a moment but Russell keeps working. Russell is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Gorden working the head and body with strikes. Gorden is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Russell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gorden's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gorden's back! Gorden defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gorden takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Gorden takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gorden moves out of range as Russell strikes. Russell wants to clinch up but Gorden keeps it at a distance. Russell lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gorden at a distance.

That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Gorden. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gorden looks for a takedown but Russell sprawls well. Russell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jeb Russell. I think Russell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
