PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Condit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hammer comes to the cage accompanied by Slippin. Condit has chosen Metallica - Nothing Else Matters as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Hammer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlos Condit!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from Condit tenderised Hammer's leg. Hammer is trying to keep his angry face on.
Hammer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Condit but Condit pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hammer takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hammer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Condit defends it nicely.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hammer.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Hammer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hammer fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Condit lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Condit scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Carlos Condit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Condit lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Condit fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hammer.
Condit throws a quick inside leg kick.
Condit moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Hammer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Condit swivels and escapes.

Hammer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Condit not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Condit is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Carlos Condit hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Condit fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hammer has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Hammer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hammer trying to pass the guard but Condit defending well.
Well, if Hammer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hammer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Condit knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Hammer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Frank Hammer has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hammer shoots in looking for a takedown. Condit tries to sprawl out of it but Hammer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Condit manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Condit keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A nice inside leg kick there by Condit. That's going to slow Hammer down.
The fighters circle momentarily. Condit darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Condit connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hammer. Hammer circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Condit lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Condit lands with a cross.

Hammer decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Hammer is looking for a kimura but Condit is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hammer to get the leverage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Condit pushes Hammer off looking to stand but Hammer dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Hammer will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Condit will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Hammer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Condit to the mat! Condit manages to get full guard.
Condit really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hammer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Condit wants to get back to his feet but Hammer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hammer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hammer is pushing down on Condit's leg trying to pass to half guard. Condit is fighting to maintain full guard but Hammer has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hammer decides to stand and escape the position.
Hammer stuffs the takedown attempt from Condit. Condit gets slowly back to his feet.
Hammer looks for a takedown but Condit sprawls well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hammer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Condit sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hammer somewhat.
Condit lands a slapping body shot.

Hammer looking to score a takedown here. Condit is defending well but Hammer drives through and ends up in Condit's guard.
Hammer is standing up over Condit. Condit looks to escape but Hammer dives into side control.
Condit is breathing heavily.
Condit prevents Hammer from moving into mount.

Hammer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Condit has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee asks Hammer politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hammer prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hammer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Frank Hammer wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Condit throws a front kick aimed at Hammer's knee but Hammer avoids it well.
Condit throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Hammer throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Condit scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hammer in his tracks.

Condit tried to score with a low kick but Hammer checks it.
Hammer shoots in for a takedown but Condit shows good takedown defense.

Hammer is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Frank Hammer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Hammer seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Condit for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Hammer dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Hammer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Condit is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Hammer locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Condit is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Frank Hammer!
A relieved looking Frank Hammer thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
