Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Adam Budgell! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacques Fresco! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Budgell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fresco but Fresco pushes him off and we're back to square one. Budgell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fresco circles away. Adam Budgell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fresco feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Fresco trying to control but Budgell is working from the bottom. Budgell tries to strike from the bottom.
Fresco throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Budgell throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Budgell wants to sweep here but Fresco controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fresco stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Budgell swivels though and keeps the full guard. Fresco drops back looking for a leg! Budgell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Budgell manages to kick Fresco off! Fresco jumps back into Budgell's guard. Budgell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fresco is one step ahead there.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Budgell fails with the takedown and Fresco counters with a flying knee that drops Budgell!
Budgell is rocked! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Adam Budgell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fresco advances to half guard. Oh Budgell is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Budgell is in trouble now - Fresco has advanced to mount! Fresco lands a big elbow - Budgell is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Budgell is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jacques Fresco! Jacques Fresco retains his lightweight title!
