Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Choke Liddell! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Maccarone! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Maccarone throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. A slow jab from Maccarone misses its intended target. Liddell moves out of range as Maccarone throws a body kick.
Maccarone thows a leg kick but Liddell checks it and Liddell counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Maccarone throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A head kick by Maccarone misses and Liddell counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Maccarone misses with a right hand and Liddell counters with a stiff right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice straight punches there by Maccarone. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Maccarone. Maccarone is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. That kick from Maccarone tenderised Liddell's leg. Liddell is trying to keep his angry face on. Maccarone throws a jab but it's blocked by Liddell. Maccarone keeps Liddell at a distance using the push kick. Maccarone throws a nice outside leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Liddell avoids the head kick by Maccarone.
Maccarone lands a left and a right that sends Liddell crashing to the canvas! Maccarone dives into mount looking to finish! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Liddell tries to hold on but Maccarone postures up. Liddell is trying desperately to improve position. Maccarone working for a guillotine from mount but Liddell is in no mood to give up. Liddell holds of for dear life.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maccarone can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Liddell is looking to escape. Maccarone throwing strikes here but Liddell is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Liddell defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Maccarone. Liddell is looking to get to half guard. Liddell tries to lock up and control but Maccarone gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Liddell really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Liddell sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Liddell is pressing down on Maccarone's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Maccarone wants to pass the guard but Liddell is keeping the position. Maccarone passes easily into side control. Nice work. Maccarone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Liddell keeps working. Maccarone working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Liddell gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Maccarone is trying to work for a kimura but Liddell is defending well.

Maccarone tried to score with a low kick but Liddell checks it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice defenses there by Liddell.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maccarone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Maccarone. Maccarone misses with the body kick and Liddell counters with a three punch combo that has Maccarone backing up. Maccarone nods at Liddell to acknowledge the strikes. Maccarone swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Liddell counters with a nice double leg into side control. Maccarone won't be happy with that. Liddell tries to advance to mount but can't. Liddell decides to stand up, so the ref orders Maccarone to his feet. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
That's two minutes gone in the round. No joy there for Maccarone, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
An inside leg kick from Maccarone misses. Maccarone throws a lazy body kick and Liddell counters with a right hand to the body. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Liddell avoids the head kick by Maccarone.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maccarone missing with a left hand there. Liddell was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Maccarone chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Maccarone misses with a hook. Liddell ducked under it nicely. Liddell checks a low kick from Maccarone. Maccarone will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Choke Liddell dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A head kick by Maccarone misses and Liddell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Maccarone thinking. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Maccarone throws a hook to the side of Liddell's head but Liddell sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Maccarone misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Maccarone throws a lazy head kick and Liddell counters with a single leg into guard. Maccarone didn't expect that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maccarone is wobbling all over the place through exhaustion. Will he make it to the final bell? Liddell chips away with some ground and pound.
And that's the end of the fight! Charlie Maccarone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Maccarone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Charlie Maccarone decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
