Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vadim Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elbrys Gora (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalashnikov comes to the cage accompanied by Leningrad Cowboys - Those Were The Days . Gora has chosen Cadillac Records - Howlin' Wolf Sings as his entrance music. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Vadim Kalashnikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Elbrys Gora! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Viktor Lagutenko and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kalashnikov with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kalashnikov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Gora with a flurry of punches that miss. Gora trying to control but Kalashnikov is working from the bottom. Gora looking to pass the guard. Gora not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Kalashnikov keeping moving, preventing Gora from controlling successfully. Gora is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Elbrys Gora. Gora takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
It looks like Elbrys Gora has been cut. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kalashnikov.
Kalashnikov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kalashnikov wants it to stay on the feet. Kalashnikov jabs at Gora's body. Kalashnikov lands a high kick!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gora shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kalashnikov as he jumps to the side. Kalashnikov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Gora fails to land the takedown. Vadim Kalashnikov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elbrys Gora. Kalashnikov fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gora has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Nice defenses there by Gora. Kalashnikov throws a body punch but Gora moves out of range. Kalashnikov thumps Gora with a low kick. Gora fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kalashnikov sprawls well initially but Gora persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kalashnikov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gora seems to be looking for submissions.
Gora is looking for a kimura but Kalashnikov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gora to get the leverage. Kalashnikov has his hands clasped together around Gora's back. He's all about the action. Kalashnikov wants to improve his position but Gora is controlling well.
Gora is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kalashnikov sees it coming and defends easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gora content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Gora seems to be working for a kimura but Kalashnikov defends the submission attempt. Gora is working for a kimura but Kalashnikov is defending it quite comfortably.
Gora throwing shots but Kalashnikov is blocking nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gora in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kalashnikov tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gora!
