PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Papa Pop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robin Blake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pop comes to the cage accompanied by The Final Countdown. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blake fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pop sprawls well initially but Blake persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Pop works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pop is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Blake trying to control but Pop is working from the bottom.
Pop lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Blake!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Blake can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pop wants to control the pace but Blake is squirming around nicely.

Pop working for a guillotine from mount but Blake is in no mood to give up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blake tries to reverse the position but Pop maintains control.
Pop with good strikes from the mount here!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pop looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Pop wants to control but Blake has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Blake is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pop thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blake's head.
Blake trying to control from the bottom.

Pop is working for a kimura but Blake is defending it quite comfortably.
Blake is not content to let Pop control the position.
Blake is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pop wants to pass the guard but Blake is defending well.
Pop takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Blake avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pop.
Blake wants to get back to his feet.
Pop thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Blake's head.
Pop is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Blake keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Blake really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pop seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Blake does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Papa Pop.

Blake gets caught flat footed, as Pop shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Blake preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Pop is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pop working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Papa Pop dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Blake looking to score a takedown here. Pop is defending well but Blake drives through and ends up in Pop's guard.
Pop trying to keep a closed guard but Blake is proving a slippery customer.

Pop pushes a forearm under Blake's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Blake is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Papa Pop!
In his post fight interview, Papa Pop started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
