Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marko Kiprusoff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, bo Waters!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Waters gets a takedown into half guard.
Waters lands with a punch from half guard.
Waters is looking to stall here but Kiprusoff recovers full guard.
Waters wants to control from the top but Kiprusoff keeps moving.

Kiprusoff scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Kiprusoff avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiprusoff misses with a takedown

and Waters counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Waters has eaten all the pies!
Waters is taking a breather. Kiprusoff says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Waters with the ground and pound but Kiprusoff uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Waters won't allow Kiprusoff to sweep him here.

OK we're going to have a standup here. bo Waters hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Waters fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kiprusoff sprawls well initially but Waters persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Waters takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Waters wants to free his trapped foot but Kiprusoff is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kiprusoff is trying to maintain the position but Waters is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waters working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Kiprusoff's thigh. Kiprusoff counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Waters postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kiprusoff is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Waters, into his guard.
Waters looks winded!

Kiprusoff drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kiprusoff jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kiprusoff drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Kiprusoff seems to have locked his on tight now - Waters screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Kiprusoff, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Marko Kiprusoff!
