PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fransisco Alveraz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alveraz's entrance music is Silly Shoes. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fransisco Alveraz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renato Ribeiro!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alveraz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ribeiro avoiding damage as Alveraz throws knees to the body.
Ribeiro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Alveraz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ribeiro drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Alveraz is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Ribeiro is defending well for now.
A right handed body shot lands from Ribeiro.

Ribeiro closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Alveraz to the mat! Alveraz manages to get full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Ribeiro tries to free his leg and advance position but Alveraz is retaining full guard.
Ribeiro wants to control from the top but Alveraz keeps moving.
Alveraz wants to hit a switch here but Ribeiro passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Alveraz there!

Ribeiro unloads with some shots from mount but Alveraz bucks and avoids them well.

Alveraz really wants to buck Ribeiro off and get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ribeiro wants to control the pace but Alveraz is squirming around nicely.
Alveraz is bucking up trying to escape but Ribeiro cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Ribeiro gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

and Ribeiro counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Alveraz is looking to stand up but Ribeiro isn't so interested in that idea.
Ribeiro controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ribeiro pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Alveraz is keeping the position for now.
Alveraz wants to get back to his feet but Ribeiro passes into half guard.
Alveraz is breathing heavily.
Ribeiro is looking to advance position but Alveraz won't allow it.
Ribeiro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Alveraz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ribeiro decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Alveraz wants to clinch up but Ribeiro keeps it at a distance.
Ribeiro throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ribeiro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Alveraz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ribeiro somewhat.
Fransisco Alveraz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renato Ribeiro.
Ribeiro circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alveraz throws a right hand that Ribeiro ducks under and follows up with a left that Ribeiro also avoids with ease.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ribeiro is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.

Ribeiro is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Alveraz can't fight it off and eventually Ribeiro manages to take the fight to the floor. Alveraz looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Ribeiro seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's time! Alveraz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Renato Ribeiro has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ribeiro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Alveraz would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ribeiro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alveraz defends it easily.

Alveraz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ribeiro has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alveraz has managed to get both his arms back between Ribeiro's legs - danger averted.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alveraz has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Ribeiro to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Alveraz is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Ribeiro pulls down on the head and he's put Alveraz to sleep! This one is all over!
