The bell rings for round one and we are underway! DeNardo fails with a takedown attempt. DeNardo misses with a body shot.
A big left from DeNardo misses. DeNardo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kawajiri manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Kawajiri wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and DeNardo manages to pass to side control. DeNardo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kawajiri sees it coming and defends easily. Kawajiri tries to kick DeNardo off but DeNardo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. DeNardo moves nicely into side control. Kawajiri can't do much from the bottom here. Kawajiri tries to escape but DeNardo is in control.
