Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bret Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael Fernandes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rafael Fernandes has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Bret Jones's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bret Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rafael Fernandes! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fernandes's waist but Fernandes gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side. Fernandes defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones. Fernandes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Fernandes moves into the clinch successfully.
Jones is trying to drag Fernandes to the mat but Fernandes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fernandes blocks a body shot from Jones. Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fernandes pulls his leg out and moves away.
Fernandes tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Fernandes on that attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernandes fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Jones. Fernandes ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. No luck with that takedown attempt from Jones. Fernandes shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jones is trying to defend but Fernandes finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Jones moves into full guard.
Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Fernandes wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Fernandes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time. Fernandes goes for a high kick. It partially lands. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Fernandes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jones to score an easy takedown into full guard. Jones passes Fernandes's left leg - he's now in half guard. Jones is looking to advance position but Fernandes won't allow it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fernandes can do anything to dispel that myth. Fernandes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though. Fernandes has hold of Jones's hands but Jones slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Fernandes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Jones frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Fernandes wants to control but Jones is having none of it. Fernandes looks winded! Jones working away from the top, dropping strikes. Jones working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Fernandes turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Jones off and cradles Fernandes's limp body as Jones celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Bret Jones! Bret Jones decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
