Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wanderlei Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Rutten! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva clinches up against the cage. Silva lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Rutten backwards. Rutten is trying to break the clinch but Silva has him pressed against the cage. Silva tries to land knees in the clinch but Rutten avoids the damage to the body. Silva stalling against the cage.
Silva throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Silva can't break the clinch.
Silva drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rutten gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Silva misses with the head strike.

Rutten stops a takedown attempt from Silva.
Rutten wants to break the clinch but can't.
Silva wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Silva has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Rutten avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wanderlei Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Good body shot from Silva.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Silva has had enough of the clinch but Rutten keeps him there for the moment. Silva swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Rutten jumps guard but Silva stands there with Rutten around his waist. Rutten gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Silva is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rutten pulls him back up using the underhooks. A head punch blocked on the inside by Rutten. Rutten is looking to break free of the clinch but Silva has double underhooks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rutten is looking to control Silva's arms but Silva gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rutten has his back to the cage. Silva fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Rutten jumps guard but Silva stands there with Rutten around his waist. Rutten gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rutten should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Rutten looking to stall.
Silva has had enough of the clinch but Rutten keeps him there for the moment. Rutten prevents the takedown attempt.
Silva is breathing heavily. Rutten using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Silva has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Rutten jumps guard but Silva stands there with Rutten around his waist. Rutten gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rutten wants to get back to striking at distance but Silva won't allow it.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Silva. Silva gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rutten flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Rutten has eaten all the pies! Silva tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Rutten. Silva will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Rutten tries to kick Silva off but Silva keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rutten wants to control but Silva is keeping busy.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rutten on the ground. Rutten is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well. Rutten has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Rutten is trying to maintain the position but Silva is very close to passing his half guard. Rutten slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Silva is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rutten has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Silva is looking to defend but Rutten has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Silva! Rutten pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Silva taps out and this one is all over!
