PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Boss Tony (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Luke Duke was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boss Tony!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Luke Duke!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duke throws a sloppy head kick and Tony moves out of range easily.
Tony stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tony wants it to stay on the feet.
Tony showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Duke.
Duke tries to clinch
and Tony counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Tony avoids a punch combination nicely.
Duke misses with a left hand
and Tony counters with a left to the body.
Tony rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Duke moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Duke lands a nice shot that snaps Tony's head back.
Tony slips a jab and a cross from Duke.
Luke Duke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duke throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tony.
Duke looks to land a combination but Tony avoids it well.
Duke takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Boss Tony is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Duke shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tony defends it nicely.
Duke dives in and grabs Tony's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tony pushes down on Duke's head and hops out.

and Tony counters with a nice uppercut.

Tony misses with a few strikes there.
Duke shoots in looking for a takedown. Tony tries to sprawl out of it but Duke keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tony manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Duke shoots in but no luck this time.

Duke misses with a kick to the body.
Duke has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
No joy there for Tony, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tony stalks Duke and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Duke's face. Duke staggers backwards, shaken.
Duke loads up on a big right hand but Tony slips the punch.

Tony takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Duke tries to land a leg kick but Tony saw it coming and moves away.
Tony throws a right and a left that both miss.

Tony will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Duke is looking to clinch but Tony is avoiding it.

Duke throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That was a close round but I would say that Boss Tony will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Tony counters with a one-two to the body.
Tony rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Duke moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Duke does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Tony throws a series of strikes that have Duke backpedaling.
Tony throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Tony counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Tony misses with a wild combination.

A clash of legs there as Tony blocks the low kick.
Tony is working the combinations to good effect here.
Tony avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tony steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Duke.
Duke doesn't manage to clinch there - Tony circles away.
Tony displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Duke throws out the jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Duke tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tony sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Duke somewhat.

That was a close second round but I would say that Boss Tony will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Duke swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Duke shoots in and drives through. Tony sprawls well.
Tony misses with a few strikes there.
Tony lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Duke backs up against the cage.

and Tony counters with a series of strikes. Duke will be more careful next time no doubt.

Well Tony has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Boss Tony decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
