Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Machida The Coward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think The Coward might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to machida the best. Santiago has chosen Asesinos - Los Crudos as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Antonio Santiago was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

27 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Santiago! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santiago misses with a body shot.
The Coward tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Santiago is able to avoid easily. The Coward tries to bum rush Santiago with a series of wild strikes but Santiago uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Santiago doesn't succeed with the takedown and Santiago takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Santiago shoots in for a takedown but The Coward shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. The Coward lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Santiago wants to slow The Coward down by chopping away at his legs. Santiago misses with a takedown attempt and The Coward counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Machida The Coward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Santiago. Santiago avoids the body shot from The Coward.

and Santiago counters with a nice uppercut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Santiago shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts The Coward as he jumps to the side. Santiago doesn't succeed with the takedown and The Coward counters with a nice body kick. Santiago looks winded!

and Santiago counters with a nice uppercut. Antonio Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The Coward connects with a high kick. Santiago takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The Coward connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Santiago's hands. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The Coward slips a jab from Santiago. The Coward uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Santiago. Santiago has his takedown stuffed and The Coward finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. The Coward misses with a looping left.

The Coward thuds his right hand into Santiago's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. The Coward lands a leg kick that knocks Santiago off balance momentarily. A low kick from Santiago is predictable there and The Coward counters with a nice low kick that buckles Santiago's knee momentarily. The Coward walks into a left hand. The Coward throws a hook to the side of Santiago's head but Santiago sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Santiago is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in The Coward's half guard. The Coward wants to get back to full guard. The Coward is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Santiago's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Santiago's back! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Santiago is really stuck here.

The Coward utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The Coward lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Santiago! Santiago is desperately trying to improve his position but The Coward has a good base and remains in mount. Santiago wants to control but The Coward is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Santiago holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as The Coward tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Santiago is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Santiago sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Santiago avoiding damage under a succession of punches from The Coward. Santiago slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Santiago looking to hit a scissor sweep but The Coward is one step ahead there. The Coward is stalling in the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Machida The Coward dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Santiago fails with the takedown and The Coward counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Santiago takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

He'll look to pass The Coward's guard now, I'm sure. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The Coward tries to land a sweep but no joy. The Coward might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Santiago throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as The Coward works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Santiago seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but The Coward does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The Coward wants to get back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The Coward is staying active underneath Santiago, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Santiago prevents The Coward from improving his position. The Coward is refusing to be controlled, as Santiago sits in half guard. Santiago missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Machida The Coward is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Santiago's corner calls for a 1-2. Santiago obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. The Coward thows a body shot but no joy. Santiago misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Santiago's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Santiago fails with the takedown and The Coward makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santiago on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. The Coward throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. The Coward lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
