PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ron Mexico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mexico comes to the cage accompanied by I want war. Walter comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Engel by Rammstein kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ron Mexico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andre Walter!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mexico doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Ron Mexico seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mexico thows a body shot but no joy.
Mexico checks a leg kick nicely.
Walter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A telegraphed right hand from Walter misses the target.

Mexico shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Walter wants to control but Mexico is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Walter wants to get back to his feet.
Mexico prevents Walter from improving his position.
Mexico missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Mexico is taking a breather. Walter says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mexico tries to pass to full mount but Walter defends it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mexico slips a nice elbow through Walter's hands, connecting with Walter's forehead.

Walter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Walter.
Mexico throws an elbow that misses. Walter uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mexico's guard. Nice move by Walter!

Mexico wants to hit a switch here but Walter passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mexico there!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mexico is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Walter.
Walter dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mexico. That did some damage!
Mexico cracks Walter with an open hand slap.
Walter lands the left hand.
Mexico swings for the body but Walter moves out of range.
Walter stalks Mexico and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mexico's face. Mexico staggers backwards, shaken.
Walter misses with a two punch combination.
Walter fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Mexico checks it well.
Walter stuffs the takedown attempt from Mexico. Mexico gets slowly back to his feet.
Walter throws a push kick but Mexico slaps the foot to one side.

enabling Walter to counter with a crisp jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Walter throws a series of punches but Mexico avoids them all with ease.
Some bone on bone action there as Mexico checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Mexico misses the body punch
and Walter counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Walter enables Mexico to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Walter manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Mexico is standing up over Walter. Walter looks to escape but Mexico dives into side control.
Mexico working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Mexico tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mexico is looking to take a break and control but Walter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Mexico working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Mexico is staying tight to Walter's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Mexico sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Walter is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Mexico creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Walter is in a horrible position here. Mexico smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Walter tries to reverse the position but Mexico maintains control.

Mexico sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Mexico can't control as he wanted to and Walter manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Walter is in trouble now - Mexico has advanced to mount!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Walter is in all sorts of trouble here.

Walter throws a nice looking combination but Mexico bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Walter throws a solid leg kick but Mexico takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Walter.

Walter takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mexico dodges the punch combination from Walter.
Mexico throws a body punch but Walter moves out of range.
Mexico connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Walter throws a looping overhand right but Mexico ducks down to avoid it.

Mexico tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Walter was well out of range. Poor timing from Mexico.

Mexico shoots in for a takedown but Walter shows good takedown defense.
Mexico throws a hook but Walter avoids it easily.
Mexico is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Mexico missing with a left hand there. Walter was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Andre Walter seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Mexico stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Walter.
Walter does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Andre Walter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Walter misses with a body shot.
Walter displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mexico throws out the jab.
Mexico throws a shot from downtown. Walter moves away and avoids it.
Mexico lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mexico moves away from the strike by Walter.
Walter paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Mexico ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Walter moves away.
Mexico scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Ron Mexico is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mexico closes the distance and clinches up with Walter, looking for a takedown. Mexico pushes Walter against the cage but Walter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Walter throws out a powerful jab.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mexico takes a swing at Walter's ribcage but misses.

Mexico thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Walter's head.

Mexico seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mexico, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
