Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle John! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mahdi Sandnema! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sandnema closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. John looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Sandnema is looking for a kimura here.
John wants to get back to his feet. Sandnema tries to stand but his hand is stuck under John. John is trying to stand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sandnema wants to work for an arm triangle but John is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sandnema in particular looking to stall. John keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. John tries to get to full guard but Sandnema has control of the leg. Sandnema missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. John manages to escape and get back to his feet!
That's one minute gone in the round. John misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sandnema.
Sandnema avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sandnema fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. John sprawls well initially but Sandnema persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Sandnema works his way into side control. Sandnema scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at John to see if he's OK. John takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Sandnema decides to stand back up. Sandnema slips under a jab. Sandnema shoots in and bounces John off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. John wriggles free and stands up. Sandnema looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. John tries to clinch but Sandnema is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sandnema misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sandnema, right into the meat.
John has his takedown stuffed so Sandnema counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sandnema passes easily into side control. Nice work. Sandnema trying to control the action but John is working from the bottom. John is trying to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Sandnema decides to stand back up. Sandnema steps back and let's John get back to his feet. John throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Sandnema counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sandnema. Sandnema stays in close to John's body and controls the position. John looking for a sweep. Not yet John, not yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sandnema lands a couple of elbows. Sandnema loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Sandnema pushing down on John's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Sandnema seems to be working for a kimura but John defends the submission attempt. Sandnema is looking to advance position but John won't allow it. John tries to roll over but Sandnema keeps him under control. Sandnema wants to work for an arm triangle but John is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sandnema works his way into full mount! A nice elbow there by Sandnema.
That's four minutes gone in the round. John flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
John reaches up to try and control the position but Sandnema seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! John rolls and tries to escape and now Sandnema has his back!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Sandnema. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!

John is trying to break free.
Sandnema is riding his opponent, not letting John buck him off. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sandnema is hanging on to John's back as he tries to escape.
Sandnema looking to break John's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. John remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sandnema will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! A lull in the action here.

Mahdi Sandnema dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Sandnema tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Sandnema shoots in but John avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sandnema closes the distance and clinches up with John, looking for a takedown. Sandnema pushes John against the cage but John circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. John throws a right hand that Sandnema ducks under and follows up with a left that Sandnema also avoids with ease. Left hook, right uppercut from John. Sandnema shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Kyle John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mahdi Sandnema. John gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sandnema counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sandnema. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Sandnema passes easily into side control. Nice work. Sandnema controls the position. Sandnema landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Sandnema looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Sandnema has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sandnema has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Sandnema looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Sandnema decides to stand and escape the position. Sandnema scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Sandnema wants to control but John is keeping him busy. Sandnema moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from John.
John knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sandnema on the ground. Sandnema looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Sandnema wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by John, who protects the arm well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sandnema lands a few punches from side control. Sandnema tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sandnema has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! John manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Sandnema is looking for a kimura but John is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sandnema to get the leverage. Sandnema passes the guard and advances to mount! Sandnema lands a nice shot to the head. Sandnema has control of John's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and John regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. John working to try and regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sandnema avoids the attempt from John to control. John tries to reverse the position but Sandnema maintains control. Sandnema raining down shots from the mount! John tries to get back to half guard but can't. John wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. John is working hard here to advance position. Sandnema wants to control the pace but John is squirming around nicely. John tries to lock up and control but Sandnema gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. John wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Sandnema has control of John's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and John regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Mahdi Sandnema showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Sandnema in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... John is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
