PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valnor Perrea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Valnor Perrea!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perrea doesn't manage to clinch there - Penn circles away.
Penn looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Penn dives in and grabs Perrea's left leg, looking for a takedown. Perrea pushes down on Penn's head and hops out.
Penn tries for a takedown but Perrea sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Perrea tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Penn manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Penn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Perrea is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Penn asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Perrea tries to escape but Penn is in control.

Penn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Perrea takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Perrea is not content to let Penn control the position.
Penn tries to move to mount but Perrea blocks the move with his legs.
Perrea is trying to buck Penn off.

Perrea is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Penn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Penn throws a low kick but it's checked well by Perrea.

Perrea tries to clinch but Penn is having none of it.

Perrea continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Penn wants to take the fight to the mat but Perrea manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Penn is looking to break free of the clinch but Perrea has double underhooks.

Perrea landing some nice looking knees to the body.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Penn is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Perrea to keep the fight standing.
Perrea drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jon Penn will probably get the nod.
That's time! Penn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Perrea has managed to clinch.
Perrea manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Penn jumps guard but Perrea stands there with Penn around his waist. Penn gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Penn has Perrea pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Perrea manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Perrea ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Perrea no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Penn is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Perrea manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Perrea moves in looking to clinch but Penn pushes him off.

and Perrea holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Perrea tries for a takedown but Penn manages to get underhooks.

Perrea is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Perrea drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Penn gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Perrea gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Perrea must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Perrea wanted to stand there but Penn had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Penn has a closed guard, preventing Perrea from standing up.
Jon Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Perrea wants to stand and escape but instead Penn has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Penn drops back looking for a leg! Perrea is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Perrea manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Perrea's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Penn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Penn wants to control from the top but Perrea keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valnor Perrea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Perrea has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Penn after a bit of a struggle.

Perrea jumps into guard, dragging Penn to the mat.
Perrea wants to get back to his feet but Penn passes into half guard.
Perrea is looking to escape.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Perrea is kicking away at Penn from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Penn grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Perrea trying to push Penn off... Perrea taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Jon Penn!
