Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jia O Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pence Apene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). O Connor comes to the ring accompanied by Parkway Drive - Feed them to the pigs. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pence Apene!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Connor swats away the attempt to clinch by Apene.
Apene shoots for a double leg takedown but O Connor sprawls well. He's pushed Apene's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
O Connor misses with a double jab
and Apene counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for O Connor!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
O Connor tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Apene wants to lay and pray for a moment but O Connor keeps working.
Apene misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
O Connor sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
O Connor tries to kick Apene off but Apene keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Apene is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Apene is keen to just control but O Connor is a slippery customer.

O Connor tries to roll over but Apene keeps him under control.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Apene lands a nice short elbow.

Apene is breathing heavily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Apene is defended easily by O Connor.
Pence Apene seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Apene with that takedown attempt.

O Connor connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Apene shoots in for a takedown but O Connor shows good takedown defense.

Apene takes a swing at O Connor's ribcage but misses.
O Connor feints and then cracks Apene's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Apene down.

O Connor drops Apene with a beautiful combination! Apene stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - O Connor is looking for the KO!
It looks like Pence Apene has been cut.

Apene shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts O Connor as he jumps to the side.
O Connor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Apene moves away.
O Connor works over Apene's head and body with a nice combination.
Apene fakes high and swings low for a body shot but O Connor manages to avoid it.
Apene moves to clinch but O Connor breaks away
and O Connor cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Apene.
O Connor jabs Apene to the body, keeping him at a distance.
O Connor throws a right and a left that both miss.
Apene looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Apene.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
O Connor scores with a hook.
O Connor lands a left and a right that send Apene crashing to the mat, dazed. O Connor thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

O Connor throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
O Connor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and O Connor wants it to stay on the feet.
Apene shoots for a takedown but O Connor saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Apene tries to close the distance and clinch up but O Connor swats him away and circles back towards the center.
O Connor lands a big uppercut and Apene crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Apene looks OK. O Connor waves Apene back to his feet!

O Connor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Apene doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Apene manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
O Connor wants to sweep here but Apene controlling him for the moment.

Apene wants to control from the top but O Connor keeps moving.
O Connor is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Apene can do to turn this around?

OK we're going to have a standup here. Pence Apene hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

O Connor lets his hands go wild with a nice combination. Left! Right! Uppercut! Spinning backfist! Apene goes down and covers up as O Connor starts wailing on him! The ref watches the action closely before stepping in and putting a stop to the fight!
