Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damien Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid Leno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damien Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sid Leno!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leno stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Leno wants it to stay on the feet.
Maia keeps the fight on the outside.
Maia looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Leno is fending him off so far but Maia persists. Nope, Leno circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Leno is defended easily by Maia.
Maia doesn't manage to clinch there - Leno circles away.
Maia on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Leno shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maia sprawls well. Maia wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Leno gets slowly back to his feet.
Leno will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Damien Maia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sid Leno.
Maia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Leno.

Maia shoots in and bounces Leno off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Leno has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maia is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Maia postures up.
Maia controlling from the top position.
Maia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Leno for as long as he can get away with.

Damien Maia has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Maia misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maia shoots in but Leno avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Leno misses with a takedown attempt - Maia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Maia tries a head kick but it misses.
Leno looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Maia is fending him off so far but Leno persists. Nope, Maia circles away and we're back to standing.
Leno looks winded!
Leno tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Maia tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Leno paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Maia wants to control from the top but Leno keeps moving.
Leno tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Maia is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Leno looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maia is one step ahead there.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Maia seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Damien Maia wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Maia clinches with his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maia stalls.
Leno tries to pull guard but Maia won't allow it.

Maia pulls guard successfully.

Maia looking for a guillotine here but Leno defends easily.
Leno really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Leno controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Maia dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Maia gets a takedown into half guard.
Maia not doing much here.
Leno is looking for a sweep. Maia is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Maia is working for a kimura but Leno is defending it quite comfortably.

Maia wants to work for an arm triangle but Leno is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Maia is looking to take a break and control but Leno is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Leno is looking to control Maia's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Leno avoid being mounted?
Maia keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Leno trying to control from the bottom.
Maia passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Leno tries to reverse the position but Maia maintains control.
Leno is breathing heavily.
Leno holds on to Maia as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
Maia is landing with some decent strikes but Leno is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Maia putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Leno has left one of his arms exposed and Maia doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Leno screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Damien Maia!
Damien Maia decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
