Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 16 - 0, fighting out of London, Thiago Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Pawel Konopacki! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez wants to land a leg kick but Konopacki is out of range. Konopacki looks to land a right hand but Sanchez moved out of range. Sanchez works the jab nicely. Sanchez fails with the takedown and Konopacki counters with a good, hard body kick but Sanchez shrugs it off. Sanchez tries for a takedown but Konopacki circles away easily and Konopacki counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Sanchez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Konopacki finds it's way round the side to connect with Sanchez's head. Sanchez moves forwards but Konopacki connects with a nice, crisp jab. Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Konopacki pinned against the cage. Konopacki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sanchez tries for a takedown but Konopacki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Konopacki uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sanchez has time to react. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Konopacki displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sanchez. Sanchez wants to clinch but Konopacki slips to the side and Konopacki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. No luck with that takedown attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez fails with the takedown and Konopacki counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Sanchez tries for a takedown but Konopacki circles away easily and Konopacki counters with a nice uppercut. Konopacki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sanchez has his takedown stuffed and Konopacki counters with a left to the body. Konopacki buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Konopacki connects with a nice looking jab.
Sanchez gets caught by a big overhand right and goes down! Konopacki gets on top of him and starts throwing some serious punches until the ref intervenes and stops the fight!
