Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beau Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Smith! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Williams fails with a takedown attempt. Smith looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Smith throws a right hand that Williams ducks under and follows up with a left that Williams also avoids with ease. Beau Williams seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Williams rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Williams lands with a nice body punch. The fight moves into the clinch position. Williams keeps control of Smith as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Williams holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Williams presses Smith against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. A right hook to the body lands for Williams.
Williams has Smith pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Williams pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Smith tumbling to the mat - Williams dives into Smith's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. That's one minute gone in the round. Williams loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Williams scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Williams's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Williams is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. That's two minutes gone in the round. Williams engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Williams is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Williams throws a big right hand that misses. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard. Williams working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Williams throwing strikes from guard but Smith blocks nicely. Williams wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Williams missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Smith, up you get! Smith gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Williams is in close to Smith's body, working some short punches and elbows. Williams is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Williams postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Beau Williams dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Smith gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Williams to score an easy takedown into full guard. Williams wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position. Williams's corner is telling him to maintain position. Williams with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Williams sitting in guard here, content to control. Smith is breathing heavily. Williams is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard. Williams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around? Smith is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Williams scores with a couple of nice shots.

Williams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Williams works his way into side control. Williams remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith seems to have recovered his senses. Williams wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy. Smith pushes Williams away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Williams gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Williams decides to stand back up. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Williams shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Williams trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Williams trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Williams works over Smith with some ground and pound from guard. Smith is trying to keep Williams in close.
Williams is looking to pass into half guard but Smith pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Smith is in guard. Williams is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea. Williams is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Williams throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Williams is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Williams looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Williams pushes Smith off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Williams changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Williams is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Smith's shoulder. That is not cool.
