PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jame Call (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kyle Babcock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Call comes into the arena with Rainin Men blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jame Call!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kyle Babcock!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock throws an overhand right that lands on Call's shoulder, as Call tries to avoid the shot.

Babcock feints and as Call raises his hands in defense, Babcock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Babcock loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Call is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Babcock is controlling him.
Babcock tries to free his leg and advance position but Call is retaining full guard.
Call keeping moving, preventing Babcock from controlling successfully.

Call escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Babcock gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Babcock trying to control but Call is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Babcock accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Babcock throwing strikes but missing.
Call looking for a sweep. Not yet Call, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Babcock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Call swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Babcock postures up and lands a big shot to Call's brow.
Babcock postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Call will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Call utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Call on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Call tries to get out of the position.

Babcock postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Call is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Babcock, into his guard.

Babcock has his foot on Call's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Call works his way back into a safe position though.

Babcock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Call is one step ahead there.
Call wants to control from the top but Babcock keeps moving.

Call throwing strikes from guard but Babcock blocks nicely.
Babcock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Babcock has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Call is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Babcock.
Babcock manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Babcock is looking for a sweep. Call is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Babcock wants to control but Call is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Call seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Babcock does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Babcock slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Call with a flurry of punches that miss.
Call postures up and lands a big shot to Babcock's brow.
Call has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Babcock is trying to control the position but Call postures up.
Call stays in close to Babcock's body and controls the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Babcock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Call gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Call controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Babcock dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Call with a hook.
Babcock missing with a left hand there. Call was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Babcock moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Call gets caught flat footed, as Babcock shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Babcock trying to control but Call is working from the bottom.
Babcock throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Call works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Babcock in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Babcock is looking to work some ground and pound but Call has wrist control.
Babcock throws an elbow that misses. Call uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Babcock's guard. Nice move by Call!

Call postures up.
Call cracks Babcock with a solid left hand.

Call avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Babcock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Call defends it easily.

Call wants to stand but Babcock has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Babcock throws his legs up looking for a submission but Call uses it to pass to side control.
Call moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Babcock wants to control but Call postures up.
Call wants to control but Babcock is keeping him busy.
Babcock takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Call lands some shots froms side control.
Babcock tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Babcock takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Call grinds an elbow into Babcock's temple.
Babcock regains half guard.

Babcock looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Call is taking a breather. Babcock says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Babcock tries to roll over but Call keeps him under control.
Call is looking to take a break and control but Babcock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Call content to control rather than advance.
Babcock manages to get to full guard.
Call not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Babcock wants to sweep here but Call controlling him for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Babcock is looking for a triangle here but Call uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Call lands a nice forearm strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jame Call will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Babcock fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Call closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Babcock's guard.

Call fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Babcock takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Babcock can't escape the position.
Call lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Babcock has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Call escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Call!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Call cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Babcock is in a horrible position here. Call smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Babcock is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Call pulls his head out easily.

Jame Call showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Call has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
