PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tadashi Masaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eduardo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva has chosen X is Coming as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Tadashi Masaru has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tadashi Masaru!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eduardo Silva!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Masaru was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Silva pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Masaru is keeping the position for now.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Masaru wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it.

Silva drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Masaru manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Silva has Masaru in his guard.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Masaru gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Masaru doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Masaru manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet Silva, not yet.
Masaru has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Silva working for a triangle but Masaru defends it easily.

Silva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Masaru can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Silva had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Masaru defends it easily.

Silva working a defensive guard but Masaru manages to pass into side control anyway.
Who's going to make the next move?
Silva is looking to regain half guard here but Masaru keeps moving and retains side control.

Masaru decides to stand back up.

Silva fails with a takedown attempt.
Masaru swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Masaru missing with a left hand there. Silva was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Masaru throws a big shot that misses.

Silva scores with a takedown into Masaru's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eduardo Silva dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Masaru missing with a left hand there. Silva was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Silva tries for a takedown but Masaru sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown by Silva or perhaps it was just good defense by Masaru which made him look bad.
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown but Masaru manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Silva's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tadashi Masaru has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Silva.
Masaru looks to land a body kick but Silva moved away.
Masaru lands a slapping body shot.
Masaru throws a right and a left that Silva avoids nicely.
Masaru throws a low kick but it's checked well by Silva.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Masaru swivels and escapes.
Masaru throws a jab when Silva was well out of range.
Tadashi Masaru seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Silva with that takedown attempt.
Masaru misses with the combination.
Silva ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva shoots in and drives through. Masaru sprawls well.
Masaru swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Masaru misses with a double jab.
Masaru tries to bum rush Silva with a series of wild strikes but Silva uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Silva avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Masaru swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Silva bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Masaru enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Masaru manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Masaru wants to stand and escape but Silva is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva wants to pass the guard but Masaru is keeping the position.
Silva passes Masaru's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Silva seems to be looking for submissions.
Eduardo Silva has got the better of the ground game so far.
Silva moves nicely into side control.

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Masaru knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Masaru is not content to let Silva control the position.

Silva is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Silva goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Masaru has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Silva but great work by Masaru.
Silva manages to work his way to half guard, despite Masaru's best efforts.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva is looking to improve his position.
Silva wants to control the action here but instead Masaru manages to pass to full mount!
Silva is working to get back to half guard.
Silva tries to hold on but Masaru postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Masaru prevents Silva from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eduardo Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Masaru tries a head kick but it misses.
Silva fails with the takedown
and Masaru counters with a nice body kick.
Masaru throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Silva stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Silva shoots for a takedown but Masaru saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Masaru sizes up Silva with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.


It looks like Eduardo Silva has been cut.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Masaru swivels and escapes.
Tadashi Masaru has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eduardo Silva.
Silva shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Masaru defends it nicely.
Masaru lands a jab to the head.
Tadashi Masaru is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Masaru swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Masaru throws a jab but it's blocked by Silva.
Masaru lunges at Silva with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Silva's hand.
Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Masaru scores with a nice strike.
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Masaru circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva defending well as Masaru loads up on a big left hand.
Masaru misses with an uppercut. Silva saw that one coming.
Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Masaru pinned against the cage. Masaru gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Silva shoots in but Masaru avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Masaru throws a sloppy head kick and Silva moves out of range easily.
Masaru throws a hook but Silva blocks it.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Masaru as he avoids it easily.
Masaru lands with a nice body punch.
Masaru misses the shot to the body.
Masaru works the jab nicely.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt
and Masaru counters with a lovely straight right hand!


Silva is rocked!
Masaru smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Silva is still on wobbly legs! Can Masaru finish him?
Masaru slips a jab from Silva.
Masaru drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Silva right on the button. Silva goes down! Masaru follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Masaru gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tadashi Masaru!
Tadashi Masaru really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that DoofenshmirtzDoofenshmirtz All 160 Supplements Inc logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
