Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Madness! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alvarez falls off balance throwing a combination
so Madness counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Alvarez keeping full guard, as Madness tries to pass. Alvarez can't keep his opponent in guard - Madness advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Madness is trying to work for a kimura but Alvarez is defending well.
Madness is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Alvarez has managed to free his arm - good work. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Madness is looking to advance position but Alvarez won't allow it. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round. Madness is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Alvarez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Madness. Madness looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Madness prevents Alvarez from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez manages to get to full guard.
Madness trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Madness is pushing down on Alvarez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alvarez is fighting to maintain full guard but Madness has managed to sneak the leg through. Madness wants to free his trapped foot but Alvarez is holding on for dear life with his legs. Madness is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Alvarez has managed to free his arm - good work. Alvarez is trying to stand back up but Madness is controlling him
That's three minutes gone in the round. Madness is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Madness passes to full mount! Madness swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Alvarez is now in Madness's guard. A big mistake from Madness there, giving up the dominant position! Alvarez tries to stand but Madness is controlling from the bottom. Madness lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Alvarez!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Madness is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Alvarez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Alvarez! Alvarez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Madness is looking for a triangle but Alvarez pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Alvarez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Alvarez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Alvarez wanted to stand there but Madness had control of the position. Madness pushes a forearm under Alvarez's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Alvarez is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

James Madness very nearly forgot to thank Pirates Powder amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name.
