Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ruben De La Vega! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jorg Stradzverg! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De La Vega fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Stradzverg closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. De La Vega quickly recovers to half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. De La Vega is looking to improve his position.
De La Vega on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Stradzverg stands up out of the half guard. Stradzverg should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. An inside leg kick from Stradzverg misses. Stradzverg takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Ruben De La Vega seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stradzverg slaps away a takedown attempt from De La Vega, before circling back to the center of the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! De La Vega closes the distance and clinches up with Stradzverg, looking for a takedown. De La Vega pushes Stradzverg against the cage but Stradzverg circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruben De La Vega. That's going to take a lot out of him. De La Vega fails with a takedown attempt. De La Vega dives in and grabs Stradzverg's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stradzverg pushes down on De La Vega's head and hops out. De La Vega shoots and misses and Stradzverg holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. De La Vega is breathing heavily. Stradzverg leaning his opponent against the cage. Stradzverg has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by De La Vega after a bit of a struggle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stradzverg manages to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stradzverg is on top in guard.
Stradzverg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. De La Vega is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. De La Vega looking to hit a scissor sweep but Stradzverg is one step ahead there. Stradzverg content to stall in guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. De La Vega wants to sweep but no luck. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Stradzverg throws a big elbow that misses. Stradzverg stands up from De La Vega's guard - Stradzverg perhaps looking for a knockout. Stradzverg takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. De La Vega misses with a takedown attempt - Stradzverg sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. De La Vega will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. De La Vega throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stradzverg's waist but Stradzverg gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing De La Vega off to one side. Stradzverg misses the shot to the body. De La Vega is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stradzverg sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Stradzverg shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stradzverg showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Stradzverg is looking for a kimura but De La Vega is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Stradzverg to get the leverage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stradzverg is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! De La Vega wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. De La Vega trying to control the action but Stradzverg just sinks the hooks in. Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Stradzverg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stradzverg lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stradzverg doesn't have the hooks in and De La Vega manages to turn into his guard.
De La Vega trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. De La Vega will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Stradzverg holds on and takes a little breather. Stradzverg pushes De La Vega off and scrambles back to his feet.
Stradzverg darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. De La Vega has hold of Stradzverg's hands but Stradzverg slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Stradzverg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Stradzverg with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stradzverg decides to return to a standing position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jorg Stradzverg dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
De La Vega shoots in looking for a takedown but Stradzverg manages to keep the fight standing, pushing De La Vega's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. De La Vega looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Stradzverg takes a shot right to the bread basket. Stradzverg fails with the takedown. De La Vega fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruben De La Vega. That's going to take a lot out of him. De La Vega fails to land the takedown. Stradzverg clinches with his opponent.
Stradzverg gets control of De La Vega's arms and successfully pulls guard. Stradzverg will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Stradzverg lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
De La Vega throws a big right hand that misses. De La Vega throwing strikes from guard but Stradzverg blocks nicely. Stradzverg utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. De La Vega throws a big elbow that misses. De La Vega pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stradzverg is keeping the position for now. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Stradzverg is adopting a defensive guard. De La Vega scoring with some ground and pound. Stradzverg lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for De La Vega! De La Vega is looking to improve his position but Stradzverg isn't that keen on the idea. Stradzverg landing strikes, looking to finish!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stradzverg is standing up, even though he is in mount. De La Vega closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stradzverg circles away. De La Vega shoots in for a double leg but Stradzverg sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. De La Vega misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as De La Vega checks a leg kick. A bone on bone clash there as De La Vega blocks the leg kick.
No luck for De La Vega with that takedown attempt. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Stradzverg throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. De La Vega tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Stradzverg is in De La Vega's guard. Stradzverg advances position into side control! Stradzverg scoring with punches from side control. Stradzverg decides to stand back up. Stradzverg steps back and let's De La Vega get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. De La Vega lands a nice looking body shot.
Stradzverg throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
De La Vega tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stradzverg swivels and escapes. De La Vega connects with a looping right hand.
De La Vega dives in and grabs Stradzverg's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stradzverg pushes down on De La Vega's head and hops out. Stradzverg closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Stradzverg missing with knees to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Stradzverg fails to land. De La Vega is trying to break free. De La Vega is looking to break free of the clinch but Stradzverg has double underhooks. Stradzverg is trying to pull guard but De La Vega has him pressed against the cage. De La Vega prevents the takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stradzverg breaks the clinch.
Stradzverg closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming De La Vega to the mat! De La Vega manages to get full guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! De La Vega wants to sweep here but Stradzverg controlling him for the moment. Stradzverg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. De La Vega looking for a sweep. Not yet De La Vega, not yet. Stradzverg pushing down on De La Vega's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Stradzverg sitting and controlling from the half guard. Stradzverg is nestled in close to De La Vega, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jorg Stradzverg showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

De La Vega tries to score a power double leg takedown but Stradzverg sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten De La Vega somewhat. De La Vega tries for a takedown but Stradzverg circles away easily and Stradzverg counters by clinching up. Stradzverg looks to throw an elbow but misses. Stradzverg pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. De La Vega shoots in for a takedown but Stradzverg shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ruben De La Vega. That's going to take a lot out of him. De La Vega lands a nice hook to Stradzverg's body. Stradzverg takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. De La Vega gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Stradzverg has eaten all the pies! Stradzverg controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Stradzverg gets to his feet. De La Vega looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's one minute gone in the round. Stradzverg drives through with a takedown into guard. Stradzverg gets to his feet - De La Vega follows without any prompting. Stradzverg takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Stradzverg jumps into guard, dragging De La Vega to the mat.
Stradzverg is controlling De La Vega's posture. Let's hope that Stradzverg has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. De La Vega stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stradzverg swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jorg Stradzverg has got the better of the ground game so far. Stradzverg manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. De La Vega manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Stradzverg wants to pass the guard but De La Vega is keeping the position. De La Vega wants to sweep but no luck. De La Vega working a defensive guard but Stradzverg manages to pass into side control anyway.
Stradzverg decides to take the fight back to the feet. De La Vega feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Stradzvergs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! No luck for De La Vega with that takedown attempt. De La Vega is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. De La Vega shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stradzverg as he jumps to the side. Stradzverg shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stradzverg with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. De La Vega tries to roll over but Stradzverg keeps him under control. Stradzverg sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jorg Stradzverg wasn't active enough on the ground. De La Vega has his takedown stuffed and Stradzverg counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Stradzverg jumps into guard, dragging De La Vega to the mat.
De La Vega being controlled here momentarily. De La Vega postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Stradzverg is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of De La Vega, into his guard. Stradzverg sitting in guard, not really doing much. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Stradzverg stands and throws De La Vega's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Jorg Stradzverg comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Stradzverg winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
