Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brock Catherins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Renan Zapelini! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Catherins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Zapelini, pushing him back against the cage. Catherins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Zapelini avoids a punch combination nicely.
Catherins shoots in looking for a takedown but Zapelini manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Catherins's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Zapelini closes this distance looking for a takedown but Catherins circles away. A looping hook to the body misses from Catherins. Zapelini does a little dance to reset his feet. Catherins looks for a takedown but Zapelini sprawls well. Zapelini tries to clinch but Catherins moves out of range. Catherins tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Zapelini closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Zapelini lands in his opponent's guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Zapelini trying to stand up but can't free himself from Catherins's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zapelini throws an elbow that misses. Catherins uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Zapelini's guard. Nice move by Catherins! Zapelini had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Catherins defends it easily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Zapelini looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Zapelini is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Zapelini looking for a triangle here. Catherins is fighting it but it looks tight! Zapelini pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Catherins is tapping out - this one is all over!
