The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Malapitan lands an overhand right.
Dela Cruz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Dela Cruz fails to land the takedown.
Dela Cruz has managed to clinch.
Dela Cruz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dela Cruz throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Malapitan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Malapitan lands a jab to the nose.
It looks like TJ Dela Cruz has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dela Cruz feints and as Malapitan raises his hands in defense, Dela Cruz changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dela Cruz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
We're going to have a standup here because TJ Dela Cruz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Malapitan lands a jab to Dela Cruz's midsection.
Malapitan scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Malapitan will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Dela Cruz takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Malapitan lands a head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Malapitan looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dela Cruz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Malapitan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Dela Cruz breaks from the clinch.
Dela Cruz shoots for a double leg takedown but Malapitan sprawls well. He's pushed Dela Cruz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for TJ Dela Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Malapitan scores with a hook to the body. Dela Cruz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Malapitan lands a nice hook to Dela Cruz's body. Dela Cruz takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Malapitan throws an overhand right that drops Dela Cruz like a sack of potatoes! Malapitan dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
