Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Damien Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Ribiero!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ribiero counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stewart won't be happy with that.
Ribiero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stewart keeps working.
Stewart manages to get back to half guard.
Ribiero moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Stewart.
Stewart tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ribiero presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ribiero looking to control but Stewart is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Stewart squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Ribiero is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Stewart is surviving well by controlling Ribiero's body position as best he can.
Ribiero controlling from the full mount.
Ribiero stands up from mount. Strange move.
Stewart lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ribiero at a distance.
No luck for Ribiero with that takedown attempt.
Ribiero tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheers as Stewart lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ribiero doesn't seem phased though.
Stewart fails with the takedown.
Stewart lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Stewart lands with a good body shot.
Ribiero tries to clinch up but Stewart circles away and keeps his distance.
Stewart uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stewart pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ribiero back to the cage. Stewart follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Ribiero gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Ribiero tries a head kick but it misses.
Damien Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Stewart really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ribiero slips a jab and a cross from Stewart.
Stewart scores with a three punch combo!
Stewart scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ribiero doesn't seem bothered though.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stewart swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ribiero shoots in looking for a takedown but Stewart manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ribiero's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Stewart ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ribiero is defended easily by Stewart.
Damien Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Ribiero.
Ribiero looks winded!
Stewart works Ribiero's body with a nice hook.
Stewart lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Stewart.
Ribiero fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ribiero throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Stewart connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Ribiero is rocked!
Stewart bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ribiero's head backwards.
Ribiero is still on wobbly legs! Can Stewart finish him?
Stewart changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stewart wobbles Ribiero with a right hand and the left hook that follows puts him on his rear! Stewart dives in with a huge flying punch that connects right on the button and puts Ribiero to sleep! - What a violent and spectacular finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Damien Stewart!
A very excited looking Damien Stewart made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
