Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Renato Sobral! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Seamus Donnelly! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sobral misses with a two punch combination.
Sobral rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Donnelly moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sobral throws a head kick that misses. Renato Sobral seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sobral fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sobral tries to work over Donnelly's front leg with a kick but Donnelly checks it. Donnelly looks for a takedown but Sobral sprawls well. Sobral connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Donnelly dodges the punch combination from Sobral.
Sobral fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sobral throws a nice looking combination but Donnelly bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sobral rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Donnelly moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sobral shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Donnelly counters with a single leg into guard. Sobral didn't expect that. Donnelly trying to control the position from guard on top but Sobral is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donnelly controlling from the top position. Donnelly is pushing down on Sobral's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sobral is fighting to maintain full guard but Donnelly has managed to sneak the leg through. Donnelly is pressing down on Sobral's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sobral is holding on for now. Donnelly takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Sobral looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sobral is in trouble now - Donnelly has advanced to mount! Donnelly looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Sobral tries to hold on but Donnelly pushes him away. Sobral is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Donnelly has taken his back! Donnelly looking for the choke but no joy. Donnelly looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Donnelly looking to break Sobral's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Sobral remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Donnelly will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Sobral manages to reverse the position and now he's in Donnelly's guard. Nice work there by Sobral.

Sobral throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Sobral looking to pass the guard. Sobral has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Sobral is looking to stand up but Donnelly won't let him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Donnelly bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sobral's guard. Sobral wants to stand and escape but Donnelly is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sobral moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Sobral misses with a takedown attempt and Donnelly counters with a single leg into guard. Sobral didn't expect that. Sobral is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Donnelly is controlling him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Donnelly drops back looking for a leg! Sobral is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sobral manages to kick Donnelly off! Donnelly jumps back into Sobral's guard. Donnelly with a flurry of punches that miss. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Donnelly slips nicely into half guard. Donnelly uses his free foot to push down on Sobral's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sobral. Sobral defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Donnelly. Donnelly working Sobral over with strikes here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Seamus Donnelly dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Donnelly shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Donnelly is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sobral doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Donnelly. Donnelly stops Sobral from getting back to his feet.
Seamus Donnelly has got the better of the ground game so far. Donnelly stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Sobral throws a series of punches but Donnelly avoids them all with ease. Sobral tries for a takedown but Donnelly circles away easily so Donnelly counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Sobral wants to sweep but no luck. Sobral knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Donnelly on the ground. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donnelly is looking to work some ground and pound but Sobral has wrist control. Sobral keeping moving, preventing Donnelly from controlling successfully. Sobral is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Donnelly is controlling him. Donnelly working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sobral's head. Donnelly prevents Sobral from getting back to his feet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sobral lands a head kick. Donnelly smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Donnelly closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Sobral pushes Donnelly off looking to stand but Donnelly dives back in and keeps control.
Donnelly is looking for a kimura but Sobral is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Donnelly to get the leverage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sobral is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Sobral is trying to stand up here but Donnelly is controlling him well. Donnelly is looking for a kimura here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Sobral swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Donnelly counters with a single leg into guard. Sobral didn't expect that. Donnelly stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sobral swivels though and keeps the full guard. Donnelly passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Donnelly advances to mount. Donnelly tries to control but Sobral wriggling away. Sobral wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Sobral has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. You can see the frustration on Sobral's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Sobral covers up after that shot from Donnelly.
Donnelly is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Sobral has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Sobral trying to get back to his feet but Donnelly is in full control for now. The referee is taking a good look at Sobral as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Donnelly!
A bit of a pause in the action here. Donnelly controlling the positon. Donnelly is looking for the choke from the back position but Sobral is controlling his hands well. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Donnelly is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Sobral up.
Sobral is rocked! Donnelly sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Sobral taps out!
