PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between JB Pencil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pencil kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Second Chance. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JB Pencil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matt Preston!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Preston shoots in but Pencil avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pencil is looking to clinch.
A big right from Preston misses.
Pencil misses with a two punch combination.

Preston closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Preston lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Preston is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pencil on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Pencil punching from the bottom.
Pencil pushes Preston off looking to stand but Preston dives back in and keeps control.
Pencil keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Preston takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Preston prevents Pencil from standing back up.
Preston not doing much here.
Preston has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Preston is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Preston scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Pencil?
Pencil really wants to buck Preston off and get back to his feet.
Pencil tries to hold on but Preston postures up.
Pencil squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Preston is landing with some decent strikes but Pencil is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Preston looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Preston is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pencil can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Preston postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pencil looks a forlorn figure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pencil tries to hold on but Preston pushes him away.
Preston looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Preston controlling his opponent.
Preston lands a heavy elbow.
Preston has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pencil's face.
You get the feeling that Pencil really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Pencil is breathing heavily.
Pencil is in a horrible position here. Preston smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Preston pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Preston takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Preston fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Preston looking for a guillotine from mount but Pencil is having none of it.
Preston controlling the pace for now.

Preston postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Pencil looks a forlorn figure.
Pencil is trying to stand up.
Preston controlling from mount.
Preston is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pencil can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Preston sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Preston working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Preston lands with some strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

BOOM! Preston connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pencil tries to hold on but Preston postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Preston dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pencil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Preston shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Pencil's guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Matt Preston wasn't active enough on the ground.
Preston fails to land the takedown.
Pencil displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Preston.

Preston looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Pencil!

Pencil is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Preston has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Preston scoring with punches and elbows.
Preston creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Preston scores with a couple of short elbows.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Pencil wants to control but Preston postures up.
Pencil is looking to get back to his feet here but Preston is keeping cool and he's managed to take Pencil's back.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Preston working for a choke but Pencil is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Pencil is trying to get back to his feet but Preston has full control of the position and if anything, Pencil has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Preston controls the position.
Let's hope that Preston has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Preston is punishing Pencil with strikes - can he finish him?!
Preston has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Preston lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Preston working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Pencil is doing well to defend. Preston seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Pencil is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Matt Preston!
In his post fight interview, Matt Preston started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
