Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Cronkite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sadaharu Tanikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronkite comes into the arena with Croc song! blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sadaharu Tanikawa!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cronkite fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cronkite swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cronkite.
Tanikawa misses with a takedown attempt - Cronkite sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Cronkite shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tanikawa as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Melvin Cronkite. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cronkite shoots in and drives through. Tanikawa sprawls well.
Cronkite doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Tanikawa counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cronkite wants to control but Tanikawa is keeping busy.

Tanikawa is just content to waste time from the top position. Cronkite takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Tanikawa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Tanikawa missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Tanikawa is looking to work some ground and pound but Cronkite has wrist control.
Cronkite looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Cronkite looking for a guillotine here but Tanikawa defends easily.
Cronkite looking to hit a scissor sweep but Tanikawa is one step ahead there.
Tanikawa landing some decent shots from guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cronkite is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Cronkite is looking for a triangle here but Tanikawa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Tanikawa in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.


It looks like Melvin Cronkite has been cut.
Tanikawa creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Cronkite tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tanikawa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tanikawa is stalling here. Cronkite is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Tanikawa seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cronkite has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Tanikawa is trying to improve his position.

Cronkite goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Tanikawa rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cronkite's guard! Nice work there by Tanikawa!
Tanikawa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Cronkite has his foot on Tanikawa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tanikawa works his way back into a safe position though.

Tanikawa stands up over Cronkite, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cronkite is trying to control the position but Tanikawa postures up.

Tanikawa throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cronkite works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Cronkite working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tanikawa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tanikawa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Melvin Cronkite's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Melvin Cronkite's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Sadaharu Tanikawa!
