PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby McGrath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fight Prototype (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Fight Prototype was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bobby McGrath!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fight Prototype!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Prototype throws a quick inside leg kick.

McGrath feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Prototype pulls McGrath in close to prevent any damage.
McGrath pushing down on Prototype's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Prototype is defending against the submission attempts here by McGrath.
McGrath works his way into side control.
Prototype regains half guard.
Prototype is looking for a sweep. McGrath is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

McGrath is trying to work for a kimura but Prototype is defending well.
Prototype tries to get to full guard but McGrath has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Prototype trying to control but McGrath postures up.
McGrath seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
McGrath wants to pass to mount but Prototype is defending the position.
McGrath has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Poor strikes thrown by McGrath there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

McGrath is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Prototype is surviving well by controlling McGrath's body position as best he can.
McGrath avoids the attempt from Prototype to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Prototype is desperately trying to improve his position but McGrath has a good base and remains in mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Prototype regains half guard.
McGrath looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

McGrath is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McGrath is breathing heavily.
Prototype is looking to control McGrath's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Prototype avoid being mounted?

McGrath tries to pass to full mount but Prototype defends it.

McGrath missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

McGrath seems to be working for a kimura but Prototype defends the submission attempt.
Prototype is trying to maintain the position but McGrath is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Prototype keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
McGrath shoots in for a takedown but Prototype shows good takedown defense.

Prototype moves into the clinch successfully.

Prototype escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McGrath shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby McGrath. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Prototype. McGrath shrugs it off though.
Prototype throws a combination. McGrath tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Prototype has closed the distance and engaged McGrath in a clinch.
Prototype throws a blind hook that connects with the side of McGraths head.
Prototype lands a nice shot to the body.
McGrath is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Prototype pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Prototype breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Prototype tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McGrath paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McGrath shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Prototype as he avoids it easily.
Prototype scores with a shot to the body.
Prototype tries to clinch there but McGrath circles away.
McGrath shoots in looking for a takedown. Prototype tries to sprawl out of it but McGrath keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Prototype manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
McGrath looks for a takedown but Prototype sprawls well.
McGrath shoots in but Prototype avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McGrath misses with a takedown attempt - Prototype sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
McGrath shoots in and drives through. Prototype sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fight Prototype dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Prototype scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
McGrath changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Prototype tries to avoid it but McGrath manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Prototype to the ground. Prototype escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

McGrath gets the takedown into side control.

McGrath tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McGrath has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McGrath tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Prototype is trying to control McGrath's posture but McGrath avoids it.
Prototype is trying to improve his position.

McGrath is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Prototype knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McGrath passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Prototype!

McGrath swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Prototype is now in McGrath's guard. A big mistake from McGrath there, giving up the dominant position!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McGrath is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Prototype rolls with it to try and escape but McGrath cranks on the arm and Prototype is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bobby McGrath!
