Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Mullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Fresenius James!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James looks to throw the jab but Mullen is out of range.
James lands an overhand right.
James misses with an uppercut
and Mullen counters with a right hand to the body.
James bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
James throws out a powerful jab.
Nice defenses there by Mullen.
James ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
James loads up on a big right hand but Mullen slips the punch.
Fresenius James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

James closes the distance and clinches.
Mullen is trying to break free.
Mullen looking to stall.
James stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
James misses with a punch to the body.

Mullen swings wildly with an uppercut but James uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mullen tries to circle away but James has him pinned against the cage.
Mullen misses with a knee to the head.
James tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
James tries a body shot but Mullen blocks it.
Mullen drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mullen keeps control of James as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Mullen takes a shot to the head.
James lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Mullen.
James scores with an uppercut up the middle.

James misses with a punch to the body.

James tries to work over Mullen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mullen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
James lands a shoulder strike.
A short body shot lands from James as the two fighters clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
James lands a body punch in the clinch.
James tries a body shot but Mullen blocks it.
James swings wildly with an uppercut but Mullen uses good head movement to avoid it.

James breaks the clinch.
James bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Mullen takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
James connects with a body shot.
Fresenius James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
James connects with an inside leg kick.
James lands with a nice combination. Mullen backs away looking to recover.
James misses the jab.
James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
James comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

James scores with a jab to the body.

James has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mullen prevents a body shot from James.

James manages to break the clinch.
Mullen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but James swivels and escapes.
James is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Mullen.
James lands with a shot to the body.
James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
James throws out a leg kick but Mullen moves out of range and James only half commits.
Mullen on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by James. James obviously looking to wear him down.

Mullen gets a double leg takedown into James's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fresenius James dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mullen moves out of range of the strikes.
James connects with a high kick.

James moves into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
James avoiding damage.
James goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
James slows down the pace here.
Mullen blocks a body shot from James.
Mullen lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
James lands a body shot.

A short right from James on the inside.
James blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Mullen successfully pulls guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mullen trying to keep a closed guard but James is proving a slippery customer.
James won't allow Mullen to sweep him here.

James decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mullen, up you get!
James stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Mullen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from James.

James moves into the clinch.
Come on James - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Fresenius James seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
James misses with a shot to the kidneys.

James tries to work over Mullen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Mullen wants a takedown.
James tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mullen's elbow.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
James misses with a hook to the ribs.
Mullen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but James pulls him back up using the underhooks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

A nice right hand lands inside from James.
James tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
James lands a hook that snaps the head of Mullen backwards.

James presses Mullen against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for James.
Mullen is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Mullen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James tries to throw a body punch but Mullen avoids it by throwing James back against the cage.
James scores with a hook to the body.

James breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Paul Mullen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
James getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Mullen needs to keep his hands up - James had a free shot at his head there.
James misses with an uppercut. Mullen saw that one coming.
James has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

James gets in close and instigates a clinch.

James tries to work over Mullen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Mullen tries to circle away but James has him pinned against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

James breaks the clinch.
James misses with a wild body shot.
James scores with a crisp jab that stopped Mullen in his tracks.
James checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
James looks to score with a jab to the body but Mullen is just out of range.
James swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mullen closes the distance and lands a one-two.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James lands a jab.

James forces Mullen back against the cage and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fresenius James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


James throws a wild body kick that Mullen sees coming a mile off.
James dodges the punch combination from Mullen.
Mullen gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Mullen takes one to the side of the head.
Good shot there by James.
James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mullen.
James lands a jab to the nose.
James cracks Mullen with an open hand slap.
Mullen avoids the body shot from James.
James misses with a lunging right hand

and Mullen counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mullen.

James can't find room to land a body shot as Mullen controls the action.

Mullen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mullen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mullen is working an open guard so James takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Fresenius James seems to be getting the better of the standup.
James changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mullen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mullen takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
James throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mullen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Mullen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Mullen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A solid leg kick lands there for James.

James fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
James throws a nice head kick!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
James tests Mullen's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Mullen fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but James avoids it really well and circles away.
James looks to land a left hand but Mullen moved out of range nicely.
James slaps away a takedown attempt from Mullen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Mullen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James misses with an uppercut. Mullen saw that one coming.

Mullen moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
James lands with a hook. Mullen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mullen misses with a combination
and James counters with a nice low kick that buckles Mullen's knee momentarily.

James rushes Mullen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
James misses with a body punch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from James.
James misses with a hook to the ribs.

Mullen goes for a takedown in the clinch but James prevents it.
Paul Mullen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mullen lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
A quick uppercut on the inside from James.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from James.
James tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
James misses with a body punch.
James struggles to land a body shot inside as Mullen controls his hands.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James just leaning against Mullen, taking a breather.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mullen jumps guard but James turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

James would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Fresenius James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got James winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
