Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Payne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Harris! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris tries to clinch up but Payne circles away and keeps his distance. Harris throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Payne stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Harris throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Payne. Harris misses with the combination.
Payne throws the left hand but Harris avoids the punch easily. Payne misses with a lunging right hand
and Harris counters with a lovely shot to the body. Payne throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Harris sees it coming and avoids it easily. Harris looks to land a combination but Payne avoids it well. Payne scores with a body shot.
Harris avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Payne uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Harris. Payne scores with a hook to the body. Harris takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Harris tries to clinch but Payne moves out of range. Payne lands with a cross. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Payne swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Harris fails in his attempt to clinch. Payne lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Harris tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Payne paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. A right-left combo lands from Harris. Payne lands a nice hook to Harris's body. Harris takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Nice body punch from Payne. Harris looks winded! Payne lands a jab to Harris's midsection. Harris takes a shot to the body in his stride.
This has been an exciting period of action! Payne swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Harris. Payne lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Harris is rocked! Payne lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Harris falls backwards - clearly groggy! Payne dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phil Payne! Our winner, Phil Payne, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
