The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirkland fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gruffo changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

and Gruffo counters with a left and a right that stings Kirkland.

Kirkland throws the left hand but Gruffo avoids the punch easily.
Gruffo swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kirkland.

Kirkland scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

It looks like Beno Gruffo has been cut.
Gruffo pushes Kirkland up against the cage in a clinch.
Kirkland throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Kirkland lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gruffo backwards.

Gruffo is looking to slow Kirkland down with leg kicks.
Kirkland does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Kirkland shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gruffo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kirkland throwing strikes but missing.
Kirkland drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kirkland jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gruffo wants to stand but Kirkland is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kirkland lands a couple of elbows.
Gruffo trying to keep a closed guard but Kirkland is proving a slippery customer.
Gruffo working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kirkland.
Gruffo is trying to keep Kirkland in close.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gruffo holds on and takes a little breather.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kirkland content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Kirkland postures up and lands a big shot to Gruffo's brow.

Kirkland has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kirkland accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gruffo wants to get back to his feet but Kirkland is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gruffo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kirkland lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Kirkland arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Gruffo's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
