PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stampe Eklund (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quade Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eklund kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Troll - Trollberg. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stampe Eklund!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quade Cooper!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eklund smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Cooper slips a jab from Eklund.
Cooper moves away from the strike by Eklund.
Eklund misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cooper.

Eklund changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cooper looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Eklund trying to control the position but Cooper is working away.

Eklund is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cooper knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cooper parries the strikes from Eklund easily there. Eklund is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cooper to escape.

Eklund looks up at the clock and then as Cooper takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Eklund smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Cooper is trying to get back to half guard.
Cooper wants to get back to his feet but Eklund drags him back down.
Cooper is looking to regain half guard here but Eklund keeps moving and retains side control.
Eklund laying and praying for a moment but Cooper takes advantage and regains half guard.
Eklund wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cooper keeps working.

Cooper is trying to get back to full guard.
Eklund trying to mount his opponent but Cooper defends it.
Cooper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Eklund is working away from the top position though.
Eklund perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Eklund thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Cooper's head.
Cooper holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Eklund is nestled in close to Cooper, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cooper is trying to maintain the position but Eklund is very close to passing his half guard.
Cooper has hold of Eklund's hands but Eklund slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Eklund wants to take a breather but Cooper is having none of it.

Eklund takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Cooper is looking to control Eklund's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cooper avoid being mounted?

Eklund is keen to just control but Cooper is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eklund shoots in looking for a takedown. Cooper tries to sprawl out of it but Eklund keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cooper manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Eklund shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Eklund in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Cooper pulls Eklund in close to his closed guard and prevents Eklund from doing any damage or advancing position.

Cooper can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Eklund controls the pace.
Cooper wants to stand up but Eklund is controlling him.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Quade Cooper wasn't active enough on the ground.
A swing and a miss from Eklund.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Eklund shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cooper sprawls well. Cooper wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Eklund gets slowly back to his feet.
Cooper wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Eklund tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Cooper is looking to clinch but Eklund is avoiding it.
Eklund shoots in for a takedown but Cooper shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Eklund fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cooper avoids it really well and circles away.
Eklund lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cooper at a distance.

Eklund dips to his left and cracks Cooper with an uppercut!
Eklund throws a big shot that misses.
Cooper moves in looking to clinch but Eklund pushes him off.
Eklund lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Cooper slips a straight right by Eklund.
Eklund lands a body shot.
Eklund keeps the fight on the outside.

Eklund darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Eklund thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Eklund is thwarting Cooper's attempts to control the position.
Cooper is looking to escape.

Eklund is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The referee warns Cooper that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Cooper wants to control but Eklund is having none of it.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Eklund cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Cooper is rocked!
Cooper is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Cooper is still in real trouble! Can Eklund finish him?
Eklund is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cooper can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Eklund pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Stampe Eklund overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Eklund tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Eklund wants to control the pace but Cooper is squirming around nicely.
Eklund postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Cooper in real trouble here! The ref calls for Cooper to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stampe Eklund!
After winning the bout, Stampe Eklund thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
