Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Laid! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akira Sendoh! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sendoh tries to clinch up. Laid shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Laid will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Laid throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Sendoh is looking to escape. Laid is working for a kimura but Sendoh is defending it quite comfortably.
Laid has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Laid is looking for a kimura but Sendoh is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Laid to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Laid is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sendoh defends it well. Laid thows a huge punch but Sendoh dodges it nicely.
Laid is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sendoh really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laid. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Laid is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sendoh has managed to free his arm - good work. Laid is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Laid missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Laid moves into full mount! Sendoh won't be happy about that! Laid is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sendoh can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Laid thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Laid cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sendoh can do anything to dispel that myth. Laid is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Sendoh is forced to tap! Great finish!
