Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zachary Sawyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nuib Sharaz! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sharaz throws a nice looking combination but Sawyer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Sharaz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sawyer manages to avoid it. Sawyer takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Sawyer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sharaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Sawyer really is a fat lump. Sharaz throws a combination that misses and Sawyer counters with a shoot takedown. Sharaz fights it but they end up in guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Sawyer throws a big elbow that misses. Sawyer stops Sharaz from standing up. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sawyer wanted to stand there but Sharaz had control of the position. Sawyer landing some decent shots from guard. Sharaz keeping moving, preventing Sawyer from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Zachary Sawyer wasn't doing enough on the ground. Sharaz throws a hook but Sawyer blocks it. Jab from Sharaz. Sawyer waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sharaz. Good shot there by Sharaz. Sawyer drives through with a takedown into Sharaz's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. This has been an exciting period of action! Sawyer has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sharaz is proving hard to escape from. Sawyer wants to control from the top but Sharaz keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sawyer is looking to work some ground and pound but Sharaz has wrist control. Sawyer pushing down on Sharaz's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Sawyer controlling the action here. Sawyer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Zachary Sawyer wasn't doing enough on the ground. Sawyer drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sawyer lands some shots froms side control. Sawyer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sawyer decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sharaz to his feet. Sharaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sawyer moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Sharaz missing with a left hand there. Sawyer was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sharaz throws a hook to the side of Sawyer's head but Sawyer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Sawyer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sawyer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sawyer showed some decent athleticism there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sharaz looks winded! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sharaz keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Zachary Sawyer dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Sawyer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sharaz quickly recovers to half guard. Sawyer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sharaz is just riding it out for now. Sawyer eventually gives up the hold. Sawyer lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Sawyer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sharaz defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sharaz tries to get to full guard but Sawyer has control of the leg. Sawyer decides to return to a standing position. Sharaz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sawyer. Sharaz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Sawyer slips under a jab from Sharaz. Sharaz connects with a jab. Sawyer slips a jab from Sharaz. Sawyer shoots in looking for a takedown but Sharaz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sawyer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Sharaz might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sawyer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sharaz. Sawyer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sharaz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sawyer is in Sharaz's guard. Sawyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Sawyer won't allow Sharaz to sweep him here.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Zachary Sawyer wasn't doing enough on the ground. Sawyer moves out of range as Sharaz strikes. Sawyer tries a low kick but Sharaz avoids it. Sawyer defending well as Sharaz loads up on a big left hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sharaz waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sawyer. Nuib Sharaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sawyer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sharaz was covering up waiting for the punch and Sawyer finishes the takedown easily into guard. Sharaz is breathing heavily. Sharaz looking for a sweep. Not yet Sharaz, not yet. Sawyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sharaz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sharaz wants it to stay on the feet. No luck for Sawyer with that takedown attempt. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Sharaz!
Zachary Sawyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sawyer ducks straight into an uppercut from Sharaz and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Sawyer manages to regain guard straight away.
Sawyer is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sawyer scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Oh Sawyer is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Sawyer is holding his hands too far apart here. Sharaz throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Sawyer is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
