The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soprano takes a swing at Backer's ribcage but misses.
Soprano tries to score with a low kick but Backer moves his leg out of the way.
Soprano's corner calls for a 1-2. Soprano obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Soprano throws the left hand but Backer avoids the punch easily.
Backer throws a sloppy head kick

and Soprano counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Soprano prevents Backer from standing back up.
Soprano not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Backer pushes Soprano off looking to stand but Soprano dives back in and keeps control.
Soprano stalling.
Soprano scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Soprano is looking to take a break and control but Backer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Backer on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Soprano wants to pass to mount but Backer is defending the position.
Backer is refusing to be controlled, as Soprano sits in half guard.
Backer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Soprano.

Soprano has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Soprano cracks Backer with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Backer takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Backer really wants to buck Soprano off and get back to his feet.
