Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brooks Buford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Koscheck! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Koscheck fails with a takedown attempt. Buford avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Buford swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Koscheck counters with a slapping leg kick. Brooks Buford seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Buford stalks Koscheck and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Koscheck's face. Koscheck staggers backwards, shaken. Koscheck with a poor takedown and Buford makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Buford shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Koscheck's guard. Buford drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Buford jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Buford is looking to work some ground and pound but Koscheck has wrist control. Buford throws an elbow that misses. Koscheck uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Buford's guard. Nice move by Koscheck! Koscheck stopping the sweep attempt from Buford. Buford working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Koscheck doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koscheck manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Koscheck stands and throws Buford's legs to the side, diving into side control. Koscheck tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Buford is trying to control Koscheck's posture but Koscheck avoids it. Buford is trying to buck Koscheck off. Koscheck working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Buford is looking to reverse the position. Buford is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Koscheck's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Buford is pressing down on Koscheck's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Buford working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Koscheck doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Koscheck manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Koscheck really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buford. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Buford trying to keep a closed guard but Koscheck is proving a slippery customer.
