Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tim Monsoon!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monsoon misses with a straight right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Monsoon. Simanov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Monsoon thows a left - swing and a miss!
Monsoon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Monsoon lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


It looks like Mathias Simanov has been cut.
Monsoon throws a chopping leg kick but Simanov manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

and Simanov holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Monsoon pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Simanov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Simanov tries to free his leg and advance position but Monsoon is retaining full guard.

Simanov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Monsoon is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Simanov, into his guard.

and Simanov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Monsoon won't be happy with that.
Simanov is looking to take a break and control but Monsoon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Simanov tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Simanov has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Simanov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Monsoon, who protects the arm well.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tim Monsoon hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Simanov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Monsoon is fending him off so far but Simanov persists. Nope, Monsoon circles away and we're back to standing.
Donk. Monsoon catches Simanov right on the button with a cross.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Monsoon jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Monsoon dips to his left and cracks Simanov with an uppercut!


Mathias Simanov's cut is getting worse.
Monsoon stuffs the takedown attempt from Simanov. Simanov gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Monsoon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Monsoon looks to land a left hand but Simanov moved out of range nicely.

Simanov throws a strike but Monsoon rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Simanov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Monsoon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simanov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Monsoon must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Monsoon seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Monsoon misses with a lunging right hand

and Simanov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Simanov is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Monsoon still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Monsoon has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
The referee asks Monsoon politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Monsoon prefers to stall for the moment though.

Monsoon wants to stand but Simanov has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Monsoon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Simanov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Tim Monsoon.

I think Monsoon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
