Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Viktor Belfort! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Finch! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Finch throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Belfort uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Finch. Finch misses the jab. Finch throws a hook but Belfort avoids it easily. Belfort scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Jab from Belfort. Belfort throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Finch throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Belfort sees it coming and avoids it easily. Finch scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Belfort is pushing Finch's head away, looking to escape. Finch manages to hold on to the position though. Belfort is trying to control Finch's posture but Finch avoids it. Finch working the ground and pound from side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Belfort is looking to regain half guard here but Finch keeps moving and retains side control. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Belfort takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. The strikes coming from Finch are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Finch throws a strike aimed at the side of Belfort's head but Belfort avoids it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Belfort is looking to reverse the position. Belfort can't do much from the bottom here. Belfort wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Finch works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Finch scores with punches from side control. Finch working the ground and pound from side control. Belfort prevents Finch from improving position. Belfort wants to control but Finch postures up. Belfort manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Finch can do anything to dispel that myth. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Finch is trying to get back to full guard. Belfort is keen to just control but Finch is a slippery customer. Finch tries to get to full guard but Belfort has control of the leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Finch is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Belfort's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Belfort's back! Belfort can't escape the position.
Finch working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Finch loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Belfort hold on?
Finch lands strikes to the head. Finch lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Belfort.
Finch connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Belfort to escape the position.
Belfort wants to control his opponent's hands but Finch gets his hands free. Finch drops a couple of huge strikes from the back position and Belfort is in real trouble here! Finch lands more strikes and the referee has to step in to end the fight! Finch is delighted!
