Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sasha Grey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Charles David Lidell! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grey tries to clinch up and Lidell counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Lidell wants to advance to full mount but Grey doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Grey looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lidell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Lidell wants to pass the guard but Grey is keeping the position. Grey is trying to hold Lidell in close to prevent damage but Lidell has managed to pass into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lidell wants to control but Grey is keeping him busy. Lidell not doing much here.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Charles David Lidell was stalling too much, according to the referee. Lidell tries to score a power double leg takedown but Grey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lidell somewhat. Lidell tries to keep at a distance but Grey has taken the fight into the clinch. Grey is pressed up against the cage. Lidell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Grey down to the mat. Grey avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Grey is looking to clinch but Lidell is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Grey looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Lidell throws a head kick but Grey moves out of range.

Grey throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lidell's waist but Lidell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Grey off to one side. Grey rushes Lidell and presses him up against the cage. A bit of stalling here from Grey.

Grey wants to clinch up but Lidell keeps it at a distance. Lidell throws out a leg kick but Grey moves out of range and Lidell only half commits. Grey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Lidell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Grey's efforts to push away. Grey will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Lidell up against the cage. Grey connects with a nasty looking knee right to Lidell's face.
It looks like Charles David Lidell has been cut. Grey is defending well against a takedown attempt. Sasha Grey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charles David Lidell. Grey pulls guard successfully.

Grey wants to stand and escape but Lidell is having none of it. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Lidell wanted to stand there but Grey had control of the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Charles David Lidell wasn't active enough on the ground. Lidell misses with a takedown attempt - Grey sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Charles David Lidell will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Charles David Lidell's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Grey breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Lidell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Grey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lidell as he jumps to the side. Grey has closed the distance and engaged Lidell in a clinch.

Grey jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lidell walks away with a smile on his face. Grey gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Grey shoots in but no luck this time. Lidell keeps the fight on the outside. Lidell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Grey pinned against the cage. Grey gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Grey tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lidell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Grey doesn't manage to clinch there - Lidell circles away.
Grey rushes Lidell and presses him up against the cage. Grey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Grey shoots in for a takedown but Lidell shows good takedown defense. Lidell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Grey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Grey tries to close the distance and clinch but Lidell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Lidell fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Grey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Grey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Grey tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Grey tries to score with some ground and pound. Lidell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Grey wants to control but Lidell is keeping him busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lidell is trying to buck Grey off. Grey looks up at the clock and then as Lidell takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Grey smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Grey fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Grey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Grey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Grey postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Lidell avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Grey. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lidell is looking for a sweep.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The ground and pound from Grey seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. An elbow from Grey crashes against the mat.
Lidell is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Lidell is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Grey's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Grey throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lidell looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Grey thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Great action here. Grey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lidell keeps working. Grey postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Lidell to stand up. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Grey looking to ground and pound but Lidell is blocking nicely. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Grey cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Grey misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
And that's the end of the fight! Sasha Grey showed his dominance in that final round. Well Grey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
