PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ogami Itto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Duggan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Itto comes to the cage accompanied by Sever the Wicked. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ogami Itto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Duggan!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duggan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Itto.
Duggan is looking to clinch.
Itto takes a swing at Duggan's ribcage but misses.
Itto tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Duggan is able to avoid easily.
Itto lands with an overhand left.

Duggan feints and as Itto raises his hands in defense, Duggan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Itto is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Duggan is controlling him.
Duggan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Itto keeping moving, preventing Duggan from controlling successfully.
Duggan might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Itto kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Itto is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Duggan looking to pass the guard.

Duggan's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jim Duggan.
Duggan shoots in for a takedown but Itto shows good takedown defense.
Duggan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Duggan walks into a left hand.
Duggan moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Itto avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Duggan scores with a leg kick.
Itto darts in trying to clinch

and Duggan counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Duggan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Itto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Duggan stands up and beckons Itto to join him on the feet.
The fighters circling - Itto throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Itto has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Duggan.
Jim Duggan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Duggan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Itto lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Duggan fails with a takedown attempt.
Duggan wants to clinch up but Itto keeps it at a distance.

Duggan shoots in for a takedown but Itto shows good takedown defense.
Ogami Itto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Duggan.
Duggan looks winded!
Itto circles away from the clinch attempt
and Itto counters with a straight right hand.
Itto lands with a nice combination. Duggan backs away looking to recover.
Itto scores with a jab. Duggan acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Sloppy strikes from Duggan. Those never looked like landing.

Duggan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Itto wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Duggan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Duggan shoots in looking for a takedown. Itto tries to sprawl out of it but Duggan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Itto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Itto scores with a decent looking hook.


It looks like Jim Duggan has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Itto rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Duggan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Duggan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Itto circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Itto is looking to score with low kicks.
Itto circles away from the clinch attempt.
Itto throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Duggan.
Duggan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Itto paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Itto lands a jab to the nose.
Duggan is looking to clinch.
Itto swats away the attempt to clinch by Duggan.
Duggan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Itto avoids it really well and circles away.

Duggan postures up.
Itto on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Itto tries to get out of the position.
Duggan is looking to stand up but Itto won't let him.
Itto wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Itto is trying to control the position but Duggan postures up.

We're going to have a standup here because Ogami Itto wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Itto lands with a right hand.
Itto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Itto wants it to stay on the feet.
Duggan is breathing heavily.
Itto moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Duggan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Duggan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Itto tries to buck Duggan off but Duggan is having none of it.
Duggan misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Itto is looking to reverse the position.
Itto wants to control but Duggan postures up.
Itto is holding Duggan down, trying to stall.
Itto struggling a bit here.
Jim Duggan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Itto tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Duggan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Duggan decides to stand back up. Duggan steps back and let's Itto get back to his feet.
Itto lands a slapping body shot.

Itto throws a lazy right hand but Duggan sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A head kick misses from Duggan.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Duggan is defended easily by Itto.
Ogami Itto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Duggan.
Duggan tries to clinch there but Itto circles away.
Itto cracks Duggan with a good jab.
Itto throws a shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duggan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Itto but Itto pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Itto connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Itto throws a right and a left that Duggan avoids nicely.
Itto tries to clinch up but Duggan circles away and keeps his distance.
Itto scores with a hook to the body. Duggan takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Duggan takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Itto cracks Duggan with an open hand slap.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Itto takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!


Duggan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Duggan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Itto.
Itto stuffs the takedown attempt from Duggan. Duggan gets slowly back to his feet.
Itto sizes up Duggan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Ogami Itto is winning the standup battle so far.
No luck for Duggan with that takedown attempt.
Nice cross by Itto.

Itto lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Duggan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Duggan rushes Itto and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Itto wants to get back to striking at distance but Duggan won't allow it.

Itto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A jab from Itto finds it's way through Duggan's defenses.

Duggan tries to clinch but Itto moves out of range.
Duggan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Itto swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Itto throws out a loose jab but Duggan uses good head movement to avoid it.

Itto misses with a low kick.
Itto lunges at Duggan with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Duggan's hand.
Duggan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Itto paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Itto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Itto wants it to stay on the feet.
Ogami Itto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jim Duggan.
Duggan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Itto defends it nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Itto lands a jab to Duggan's midsection.
Duggan gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Itto stuffs the takedown attempt from Duggan. Duggan gets slowly back to his feet.
Itto connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Itto dives in and grabs Duggan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Duggan pushes down on Itto's head and hops out.
Duggan misses with a lunging right hand
and Itto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Duggan on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Itto cracks Duggan with a good jab.
Itto finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
A left lands for Itto.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Itto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Duggan.
Nice shot lands for Itto.
Itto lands a right hook to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Itto connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Itto cracks Duggan with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Duggan walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Itto moves into range and connects with a jab.
Duggan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Itto finds it's way round the side to connect with Duggan's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ogami Itto showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Itto has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
