The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paris shoots in looking for a takedown. Dragon tries to sprawl out of it but Paris keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dragon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Dragon lands with a kick to the ribs.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Craig Paris. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dragon creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Dragon tries a body shot but Paris blocks it.
Dragon drags the fight down to the ground.
Paris trying to control the position from guard on top but Dragon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. This has been an exciting period of action! Dragon has his foot on Paris's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Paris works his way back into a safe position though. Paris pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dragon is keeping the position for now. Dragon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Paris defends well. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dragon can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dragon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Paris defends it easily. Dragon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Paris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Paris passes easily into side control. Nice work. Paris tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Paris has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Paris looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Paris has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Dragon is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Paris yanks on the arm and Dragon is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Paris.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Craig Paris! Craig Paris retains his welterweight title!
