Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tj Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tj Shields!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote misses with a takedown attempt

and Shields counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Cote!

Shields is trying to get an arm triangle but Cote is defending well.
Shields avoids the strikes from the bottom by Cote.
Sloppy strikes there by Shields.
Cote wants to get back to his feet.
Cote tries to bench press Shields off him but Shields keeps the position.
Cote wants to control but Shields postures up.
Shields throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Shields is chipping away with strikes.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields looks up at the clock and then as Cote takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Shields smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Cote is looking for a sweep.

Cote taking punishment in the form of punches.
Cote is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Shields off and has taken his back!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cote struggling to keep hold of the position.
Shields is taking damage to the body and head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cote is hanging on to Shields's back as he tries to escape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cote is trying to stick to Shields's back but Shields is turning into Cote. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Cote's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Shields.
Shields must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shields's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Shields slips nicely into half guard.
Shields not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Shields wants to pass the guard but Cote is defending well.
Cote is looking to escape.

Shields throwing shots but Cote is blocking nicely.
Shields winds up and cracks Cote with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Shields drops an elbow to the side of Cote's head.
Cote is trying to stand up here but Shields is controlling him well.
Cote on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Shields is looking for a kimura here.
Shields tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cote knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cote wants to control but Shields is keeping busy.
Cote tries to get to full guard but Shields has control of the leg.

Cote is trying to stand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote gets back to full guard.
Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cote swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tj Shields dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Cote misses with a takedown attempt - Shields sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Shields avoids the head kick by Cote.
Patrick Cote is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cote looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Cote. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shields misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Cote is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shields works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Shields looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Cote is avoiding damage well.

Shields has hold of Cote's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Cote seems comfortable defending it but Shields has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Cote is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Cote is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Shields couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tj Shields!
After winning the bout, Tj Shields thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
