27 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Aerts! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Aerts finds it's way through Caine's defenses. Aerts checks a leg kick. Caine gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Aerts. Caine fails with the takedown and Aerts counters with a nice body kick. Aerts connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Aerts misses with a wild body shot. Aerts gets off balance looking for a body kick and Caine counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Aerts jabs Caine to the body, keeping him at a distance. Caine throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Caine has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Aerts. A looping hook to the body misses from Caine. Aerts does a little dance to reset his feet. Caine moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. A cross from Aerts lands. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Caine avoids a kick to the body.
Aerts lands a leg kick that knocks Caine off balance momentarily. Aerts displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Caine throws out the jab. Aerts swings and misses with a hook to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aerts misses with a looping left. Aerts digs a good body shot into Caine's ribs. Aerts throws a wild body kick that Caine sees coming a mile off. Peter Aerts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Caine cracks Aerts with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Aerts swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Aerts lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Caine uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Aerts. Caine with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Aerts to score with a decent uppercut. A head kick by Aerts misses and Caine counters with a takedown into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Caine working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Caine is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Aerts is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Caine goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Aerts rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Caine's guard! Nice work there by Aerts! Caine trying to control the position.
Caine escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Aerts gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Caine is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aerts got a little sloppy there for a moment and Caine has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Aerts has managed to get both his arms back between Caine's legs - danger averted.
