Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Robbie McStar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
25 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Abdullah Zaire! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! An inside leg kick from Zaire misses. Zaire closes the distance and clinches. McStar lands with a short head shot on the inside. McStar lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
McStar sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Zaire defending well though. McStar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zaire's head. McStar wants to control but Zaire is keeping him busy. McStar with the ground and pound but Zaire uses the opportunity to regain guard. Zaire seems keen to control McStar's posture. Zaire working for a triangle but McStar defends it easily.
Zaire is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Zaire performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. McStar is trying to get back to full guard. Zaire wants to take a breather but McStar is having none of it. Zaire keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Zaire is trying to control. McStar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Abdullah Zaire was stalling too much, according to the referee. McStar on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Zaire. Zaire obviously looking to wear him down.
McStar misses with a takedown attempt - Zaire sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. McStar misses with a takedown attempt and Zaire counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Zaire has a takedown stuffed.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zaire throws a jab but it's blocked by McStar. Robbie McStar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McStar with a poor takedown and Zaire counters with a lovely straight right hand! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robbie McStar. That's going to take a lot out of him. A left lands for Zaire. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McStar misses with a lunging right hand
and Zaire makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Zaire takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. McStar takes a jab right on the kisser.
McStar fails with the takedown. Zaire uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before McStar has time to react. Zaire lands with a hook. McStar tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Nice straight punches there by Zaire. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Zaire. Nice takedown defense from Zaire. No joy for McStar on that attempt. Zaire connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Zaire leaves McStar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Zaire is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! McStar had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. McStar is breathing heavily. McStar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zaire tries to avoid it but McStar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zaire to the ground. Zaire escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

It looks like Robbie McStar has been cut. Zaire connects with a jab. Zaire fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Zaire closes the distance and clinches. Zaire fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Zaire lands a right hand. A head punch on the inside from Zaire fails to land. Zaire pushes McStar back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McStar has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Zaire is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Zaire is working McStar over against the cage. McStar doesn't succeed with the takedown enabling Zaire to counter with a crisp jab. Zaire avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Zaire plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! McStar bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. McStar has his takedown stuffed and Zaire connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Abdullah Zaire seems to be getting the better of the standup. Zaire misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McStar.

McStar shoots and misses and Zaire counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps McStar thinking. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Zaire lands with an overhand left. Zaire darts in and out, connecting with a jab. McStar takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Zaire feints and then cracks McStar's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow McStar down. Zaire stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Zaire manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McStar on his heels. He'll look to pass McStar's guard now, I'm sure. McStar doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Zaire tries to free his leg and advance position but McStar is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zaire's corner is telling him to maintain position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Zaire trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zaire slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Zaire postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Zaire works a leg free and moves into half guard. Zaire is keen to just control but McStar is a slippery customer. Zaire thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Zaire darts in and clinches McStar up against the cage. A nice right hand lands inside from Zaire. Zaire misses with a punch on the inside.

McStar has Zaire pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zaire manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Zaire tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Zaire creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Zaire doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

McStar wants to take the fight to the mat but Zaire manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Zaire lands with a light punch inside. Zaire is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body. Zaire lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Zaire misses with a body punch.
Zaire lands a left hand that snaps the head of McStar backwards. A shot in the inside from Zaire.
McStar is rocked! A short left from Zaire. Oh McStar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Zaire tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Zaire lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Zaire creates some distance for himselfand unleashes a massive uppercut that sends McStar's eyes rolling into the back of his head! McStar drops to his knees and Zaire pours it on with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Abdullah Zaire! Abdullah Zaire seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
