PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lath Hoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoy has chosen Go Ninja-Vanilla Ice as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Lath Hoy!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duarte avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Duarte shoots for a double leg takedown but Hoy sprawls well. He's pushed Duarte's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hoy takes a swing at Duarte's ribcage but misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hoy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Duarte misses the shot to the body.
Duarte uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hoy.
Duarte moves out of range as Hoy strikes.
Duarte is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hoy sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Duarte changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hoy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Duarte is working Hoy over with some ground and pound from side control.

Duarte tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Duarte in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Duarte lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hoy down.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duarte cracks Hoy with a big right hand but Hoy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Hoy tries to improve position but can't.

Duarte goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hoy has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Duarte but great work by Hoy.
Hoy wants to control but Duarte is keeping him busy.
Duarte has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Duarte manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hoy's best efforts.

Hoy seems to be working for a kimura but Duarte defends the submission attempt.
Duarte keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Duarte is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Duarte is looking to control Hoy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Duarte avoid being mounted?
Duarte is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hoy is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hoy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duarte is keeping the position for now.
Duarte pulls Hoy in close to prevent any damage.
Hoy wants to control from the top but Duarte keeps moving.

Duarte keeping moving, preventing Hoy from controlling successfully.
Duarte can't keep his opponent in guard - Hoy advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Duarte looking for a kimura from the bottom but Hoy passes into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hoy goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Duarte rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hoy's guard! Nice work there by Duarte!
Duarte postures up and lands a big shot to Hoy's brow.
Hoy is trying to control the position but Duarte postures up.
Duarte lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Hoy controls Duarte momentarily but Duarte frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hoy isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Duarte stacks Hoy on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Duarte!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duarte tries to move to mount but Hoy blocks the move with his legs.

Duarte working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hoy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Duarte wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcos Duarte dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hoy misses with a left hand
enabling Duarte to counter with a crisp jab.
Duarte misses with a body shot.
Duarte shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hoy but Hoy pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hoy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Lath Hoy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hoy swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Duarte counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Duarte.
Hoy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Duarte pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hoy digs a good hook to Duarte's body.
Hoy throws a hook but Duarte avoids it easily.
Hoy slips under a jab.
A big left from Hoy misses.
Duarte slips a straight right by Hoy.

Hoy gets tackled into the cage by Duarte. Duarte maintains the clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Hoy as Duarte tries to tie him up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duarte misses with a body punch.
Hoy tries to throw a body punch but Duarte avoids it by throwing Hoy back against the cage.
Duarte stalling.
Hoy tries to stall but Duarte uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Duarte gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Hoy is trying to get back to full guard.
Duarte trying to pass the guard but Hoy defending well.
Duarte is working hard here to advance position.
Duarte is keen to just control but Hoy is a slippery customer.
Duarte working over Hoy with some ground and pound. Hoy looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Marcos Duarte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hoy is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duarte trying to control the action but Hoy is working from the bottom.

Hoy is looking for a sweep. Duarte is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Duarte is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hoy defends it well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Duarte lands a nice short elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Duarte lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Duarte scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Duarte is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Duarte uses his free foot to push down on Hoy's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hoy.

Duarte cracks Hoy with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Duarte throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Hoy has his hands clasped together but Duarte breaks the hold and Hoy is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Duarte!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcos Duarte!
